Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2002
I had never heard of snickerdoodles before I came across this recipe, so I wasn't sure of how they were supposed to turn out. But they were VERY yummy. I used an ice cream scoop to drop them onto the trays, and then sprinkled them with the sugar/cinnamon mixture (which kind of was concentrated in the middle of the cookie and sparser on the outside edges as it spread but oh well). I also (whispers guiltily) melted the shortening and butter instead of softening and creaming it, but it worked out fine. I'd definately recommend this recipe to others.

Anzac Biscuits with Macadamia Nuts

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2002
I put the baking powder in at the wrong stage (oops!) and left out the macadamias (I'm a broke student) and it still turned out nice. I was a little nervous half way through, the dough was very crumbly and in no shape to teaspoon onto my tray. However after compressing the dough into hard little balls in my fist and then flattening them into biscuit shapes it turned out just lovely. They remind me a little of the uncle toby's break free biscuits. :-)

Baked Omelet Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2002
This was my first frittata and it was so pretty and easy to make, even the kids could do it! Next time I am putting extra cheese on because I like it to be artery clogging, mmmn. Oh! Just a tip: I had to cook it a bit longer (30 minutes) maybe my oven is a bit dodgy? Watch the middle of the pie to see if it's set.

Shieldzini

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2002
Making this I thought, this will be really sour and yukky. But even though I left out the oil (watching my weight) it turned out SOOOO tasty! Really nice, next time I think I'll try a bit of ginger on top too.

Flax and Sunflower Seed Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2002
I made this by hand, and this is a pleasingly HUGE loaf. The sunflower seeds aren't really noticeable but the linseeds give it a nice 'healthy, hearty' appearance.

Date Loaf Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2002
I was skeptical because it looked too easy, but I pushed on ahead as I had some self-raising flour to be used up. I am so glad I did. This recipe was THE BEST... next time I have people over I plan to serve this warm as a dessert with a dollop of thick cream on the side. The house smells fantastic as it cooks, to boot!

Lemon Poppy Seed Loaf

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2002
I halved this recipe and made it into 11 muffins instead of one loaf. They tasted so good! I tend to stick with the popular recipes, so it was a pleasant surprise that a recipe that didn't have a zillion reviews still turned out to be so yummy and worthwhile making. :-))

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2002
This was the first time I did a muffin recipe with baking soda/powder instead of self raising flour... and (sigh of relief) it turned out fine. I already love plain muffin tops, but these crunchy sweet tops are even better!!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2002
So tasty! But they puff up heaps while cooking... next time I am going to choose smaller cookie cutters and make more cookies instead.

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2002
This is a spectacular icing - so glossy and hard! I live in Australia and had to hunt around for the corn syrup (found it in the fourth supermarket) but it was well worth the trip. So easy but such great results.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread I

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2002
So incredibly tasty. I was completely chuffed when the family were surprised and impressed when they cut it open to reveal the cinnamon and sugar swirls. :-) I am doing something wrong though because the ends of the loaf rise up high and the middle kind of, well, sinks. Can anyone suggest how I fix this?

Good Dog Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2002
Dogs go stir crazy for this, and it is quick and easy to make. I was a bit apprehensive when they came out of the oven, as they looked half cooked and were kind of bendy, but my pooch scarfed them down! Overnight they turn satisfyingly hard like commercial dog cookies, and are excellent for dogs to hide between sofa cushions. *grin* A+

Molasses Oat Bran Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2002
This recipe was a bit iffy. The dough consistency was hard and similar to cookie dough, without the soft yeilding texture that bread dough usually has. Plus, after letting it rest twice I only had enough for one loaf instead of two. After baking it came out tasting alright, but I don't think I'll do this recipe again - it was very time intensive (4 hours upwards) for not much result at the end.

Focaccia Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2001
Instead of forking out money to buy all the herbs needed individually, I bought a spagetti bolognaise seasoning mix instead. (Surprisingly, had exactly the herbs I needed!) It turned out really well.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2001
This was the first loaf of bread I ever baked. It worked perfectly! The only problem was that I did need to let it 'rest' for closer to an hour and half than half an hour to get it to rise properly...

This is a recipe that will turn out perfectly the first time you use it. :-)
