Hello, My name is Monica, I am a newly married woman. I have a knack for cooking. My father was a wonderful cooked, he wanted to be a professional chef, but chose family life with my mother and I over working holidays, weekends and nights. I have watched him cook and eaten his food for 27 years.
My favorite things to cook
I love pasta. I love chicken. I love shrimp. I love beef. I love all food. My husband is picky though. I usually bake off chicken breast that has been marinating in my own special marinade, and he does what he wants with his and I do what I want with mine. I just recently did a nice lemony shrimp over rice for my mother and I. I am going to try my hand and 1st, roasting a chicken in our Set It and Forget It cooker, and then use the carcass for homemade chicken noodle soup! I found a great one with tortellinis in it! YUM
My favorite family cooking traditions
I guess, since we are italian, I cook a lot of italian. I like to see what I have in my fridge or freezer and make it into this great meal. My husband is always so shocked when he sees what I used and how great it tastes. I just made salisbury steaks, with frozen burgers I had! I thawed the burgers out, added an egg, old bread crusts that I freeze and save, some onion gravy seasoning and some meatloaf seasoning. With brown gravy, they were so good!
My cooking triumphs
Using my father's KitchenAide stand mixer. I bought it for him, and when he passed away this year my mother gave it to me. I have made many batches of various banana breads (banana strawberry, banana oat nut, banana blueberry) and I made my very first from scratch cake, Red Velvet with Cream Cheese frosting. It was delish! Next is my set it and forget it roaster.
My cooking tragedies
I like to cook alone. I LOVE the craziness of having three things going at once. I love the look on my husbands face when he takes that first bite of a wonderful meal that I slaved over. One thing I never do, and maybe I just forget to, is I never taste my food when I cook. Sometimes I do, but not often. I know the chefs on Foodnetwork always do, but I have yet to have a dissappointed dinner with my lack of taste testing.
