Amazingly Easy Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2014
This didn't work for me at all. After 45 minutes baking the outside was done nicely, but the inside (probably half of the loaf) was gooey and completely un-baked. Unfortunately this ended up being inedible.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2013
Made this for desert tonight for the family, and it was awesome! As a dad who enjoys baking but often creates flops, this worked out perfectly. Not sure if I actually had 10 cups of apple or not... I had a bunch... :) Enough to pile up the 9x13 pan pretty well. And I followed the recipe exactly, *except* I decided not to put all of the sugar/cinnamon mix on the apples. I mixed those ingredients as per the recipe, but then only used about half of it, and the taste was amazing. Made the topping/crust as per the recipe, and it was also perfect... plenty for a nice thick crunchy crust. We didn't have any ice cream at home, but it really didn't need it! It is that good!

Bandito Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2012
If I could do 1/2 stars I would give this a 3 1/2 rating. It wasn't what I expected, it is very much what I would call "chili" rather than "baked beans". The end result isn't bad, but it is quite sweet for my tastes. In the end, it's not a bad recipe, I just can't rate it higher than 3-4 as it didn't provide me with the baked beans I was looking for. I DO like the nice variety of beans in it though, very hearty and nutritious.

Potato Chips

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2012
Very easy, very tasty, and healthier than buying a bag from the store! Only issue I had was I had to slice the potato by hand, so thickness was inconsistent, so had to watch the chips as they cooked, as they were ready at different times. They go from "almost ready" to "burned" quickly, so watch closely!

Caramelized Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2011
Fantastic!!! My wife and I, and our 3 year old, loved these! Only issue I had was I cooked them in a large wok-style pan, and when it came time to thicken the sauce, it wasn't thickening until I transferred it into a standard frying skillet. THen it all came together. Served these with rice and veggies, and used some of the leftover sauce on the rice. Delicious! Only complaint was that I didn't make enough chicken, it was done too fast!!

Fresh Southern Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2011
Very tasty! I did reduce the sugar somewhat. Instead of a total of 1/2 a cup in the peach mix, I used about 1/3 in total. And for the sugar/cinnamon sprinkle on top, I ended up only using about half of the mixture. It turned out fantastic! Nice full crumbly, slightly crunchy topping, very flavourful peach filling, good consistency. Will definitely make again.

Smooth Sweet Tea

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2011
I knew this was a recipe for "sweet tea", but I honestly wasn't sure what "sweet tea" tasted like, having never had it before. For my taste, this tea was far too sweet. It had a nice flavour to it (I used Early Grey tea), but much too sweet. Still giving 4 stars, as I can't rightly downgrade a "sweet tea" for being sweet. lol But, if I try this again, I will cut the sugar down by about 1/2.

Breakfast Loaf

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2011
Made this today for brunch. Only had a tiny bit of ham, so subbed in crispy bacon. Didn't have peppers or tomatoes, so threw in some salsa. Very, very good! I'd take previous reviewers suggestion of brushing some milk on the loaf before wrapping it, and it came out very nicely. Just a touch of crispyness. Only issue was the aluminum foil stuck to the bread a bit because of the milk. It came off with a bit of coaxing, but next time I'll lightly spray the foil with non-stick spray.

Perfect! I decided I wanted some pudding, didn't have any instant pudding in the house, didn't want to go to the store. Solution? AllRecipes.com! Found this recipe, and it's sooo easy, and sooo tasty. I followed the recipe exactly, and it worked out just perfectly. Thanks. :)

Mongolian Beef and Spring Onions

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2011
Fantastic! I doubled the meat, and that resulted in a good meat-to-sauce ration. Also, I didn't have any dark brown sugar, so used golden brown sugar and added about 2 teaspoons of molasses. I also added some sliced red pepper with the green onion. Served it with rice, veggies, and bread, was delicious!

Irish Soda Bread in a Skillet

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
Not sure on this one yet. Just tried it for the first time, and it didn't quite work out. I didn't add quite all of the milk, as it seemed very moist to me after adding about 80% of it. However, the bread didn't end up expanding/rising very well, and after bakinhg it for about 22 minutes at 400F, I figured it must be done, took it out, cut it in half, and the center (I'd say about 25% of the mass) was completely unbaked. I put it back in the oven for another 12 minutes or so, and that seemed to bake it *almost* through, and is still OK on the crust. So that was about 34-35 minutes in total, where the recipe calls for only 15 minutes. I'll try again, as the taste is good, but next time I'll just go ahead and add all of the milk, as perhaps it was too dry this time, and that caused it to not expand properly.

Simple, hardy, and tasty. I grew up on this type of goulash, and enjoyed this very much. Reminds me of moms cooking.

Spicy Chipotle Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2011
Had to make a few changes... The grocery store was almost out of ground turkey, so I mixed turkey with ground chicken. I used Italian Parsley instead of cilantro, and didn't use the chipotle chili... I wasn't sure how hot they are and didn't want to overdo it, plus I didn't really want to buy a jar of them to only use a single pepper... so instead I poured in a couple tablespoons of Franks Red Hot Buffalo Chicken sauce. I know, completely different taste that what the pepper would have provided, but that's what I did. :p End result... fantastic! Great combo of spice in the burgers, nice and moist. Will definitely make these again, they were so easy to make and delicious.

Cornish Finnish Michigan Pasties

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2011
Recently I was reminiscing about amazing Cornish pasties I used to buy from the deli at the local college I attended right out of high school... remembering how amazing they were, so I looked up a recipe here. Saw several variations, decided to try this one. I left out the MSG and replaced it with a few shakes of various spices from the cupboard (can't even remember exactly what), and used turnip instead of rutabaga (that's the store had). Other than that I followed the recipe exactly. My first taste was a nervous one, not knowing if I'd be satisfied... but wow, was I satisfied. Delicious! After one bite I recalled that I liked a lot of pepper on the pasties I ate in college, so I grabbed the pepper mill and applied a healthy dose. Fantastic!! Very similar to what I remember enjoying as a student. I highly recommend this recipe, delicious! Great meal on a cold winter night.

Chocolate Cavity Maker Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
Awesome cake! Incredibly easy, and very, very tasty. Moist, chocolaty goodness. THis was the first cake I've ever made, believe it or not, and I made it for my wife's birthday. Everyone enjoyed it, and my brother-in-law, who doesn't normally care a lot for cake, went back for seconds. I served it with a raspberry sauce made from a recipe on this site, and it was delicious.

King Ranch Chicken Casserole I

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2010
Loved it! Could find tomatoes with green chili's, but did find some tomatoes with hot red pepper spice, and used that. Turned out VERY tasty! Only thing I might do different, and this is just personal preference, is to not put the tortillas on the bottom, but instead put a layer of them in middle and near the top. THis time I put a layer at the bottom and a layer in the middle, and the ones on the bottom got all soft (obviously), while the middle layer was still a bit crunchy, and I preferred that crunch. Either way, they were very tasty! Thanks for the recipe.

Glo's Sausage Fried Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2010
I made this a few days ago, and decided I'd drop a quick review. I'd rate it 3 1/2 if I could. My overall "complaint" is that I found the result was on the bland side. It didn't taste bad, it just tasted a bit boring. I'm still eating the leftovers, and today for lunch I jazzed it up a bit with some Lawry's seasoned salt, and a bit of Franks Red Hot sauce... and I gotta say, it tasted pretty darned good! With some tweaks, I'd make it again, adding some more spice, and a bit of hot sauce, right from the get go.

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2010
Oh mama!! I am a sucker for a certain taste in buffalo chicken, and this one nails it! The tangyness, the spicyness, but also the mellowing flavour of the ranch... it all comes together in this recipe, and it's SO EASY! Tried it for the first time last week, only change I made was the cooking process... I cooked it for about 4 1/2 hours, then shredded the chicken and added the butter, then back in the crock pot for another hour or so. Delicious! Had it for lunch sandwiches all week... kaiser bun, lettuce, mozza cheese, and a healthy scoop of the shredded chicken. Would also be good simply eaten by itself as sliced chicken, or on pizza.
