Green Hot Sauce (Salsa Verde)

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2011
I made the recipe as written, and I thought it was bland and salty. That's why I'm giving it 3 Stars as written. It wasn't spicy, which is how I like my salsa. It's how I believe it should be. I've been eating salsa since I was a kid, and put that awesome goodness on almost anything, lol. I thought it had potential, and after the changes I made, it's now a 5 in my house. I increased the amount of peppers, added cilantro, and reduced the salt. This salsa had way too much salt. I add about 1.5 tsp, sometimes 2 tsp.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2011
I've made these a few times, and followed the recipe exactly. That recipe gets 4 STARS. But honestly, the recommendations of other reviewers turn this recipe into a 5. Of course, I can't give this recipe a 5 since I added a couple of ingredients & I wouldn't be reviewing this recipe fairly. Anyway, these are the ingredients added: 1/2 tsp of NUTMEG & 1 tsp of VANILLA EXTRACT. Those 2 ingredients turn this recipe into a 5 because the nutmeg makes a HUGE difference, in my opinion; I think it adds such a great flavor and scent.

Light Oat Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
It was OK, but I wasn't impressed. I have tried this recipe twice because I couldn't remember if I had tried it. That's how unmemorable this bread was. It's not worth making again. It doesn't taste disgusting, but there's just nothing WOW about it.

Light Wheat Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
This is my second time making this recipe, but I didn't make them into rolls. I made it into a loaf of bread! It was so good. The bread is great. I love how soft and moist it is. I followed the recipe as written, except I made it into a loaf, of course :)

Mexican Wedding Cookies (Polvorones)

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
I used 1 cup of margarine instead of shortening and used 1 cup of chocolate chips instead of walnuts. I LOVED how the recipe turned out. Oh, if the powdered sugar doesn't stick, put it in a plastic bag and place 2 cookies in there at a time and shake it for a few seconds. Take them out and then in 10MIN, powder them again and the coating sticks much better and it's thicker.

Cranberry Upside-Down Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
I tried another coffee recipe from this site (Aunt something's coffee cake) and it was a disaster. I made it twice and it was still horrible. So, once I found this recipe, I was optimistic that this one would be better because it uses sour cream(I think that definitely makes a difference in coffee cakes). I followed the recipe exactly except I used frozen strawberries b/c it was the only thing I had, and the coffee cake turned out DELICIOUS! It was AWESOME. It was soft and moist *drools* I really loved the texture of the cake! It was NOT dry or hard, nor too soft. This recipe is definitely a keeper, and I can't wait to make it again. I'd recommend this recipe to everyone! I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating the great taste, but I was searching for a good coffee cake recipe and FINALLY, I found this one: DELICIOUS! :)

Colorful Beverage

I followed the recipe as written, and it was awesome! I've made this so many times now! It's so good. I've recently started to add VODKA to it haha it's even better. I got a nice buzz from it :) This recipe is a keeper! I'd recommend others to try it out as written, and then later, add some vodka to it ;) Oh, yeah!!!

Albondigas

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
I'm not a fan of soups, but I decided to make this when it was cold & raining. I followed the recipe as written, and it came out wonderful. I really enjoyed the flavor of it. I'm definitely going to make this again. It's a keeper. I'd recommend others to try it :) UPDATE APRIL 2011: I added 1 TSP of Garlic Powder, Paprika, & Cayenne Pepper. I also added celery; it adds such a nice flavor. I don't add the salsa in the pot anymore. It tastes good w/o it, but I place the salsa on the table so we can add as much salsa as each person would like to their own bowl. BTW, the fresh cilantro as garnish is GREAT! Try it out at least once.

Oh-So-Good Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
I've made this with and without mushrooms & it's still delicious. I've made it a few times. Now I add diced tomato and chopped onion & taco seasoning (I use the taco seasoning 1 recipe from this site) to the chicken in the skillet. I steam only 1 cup of rice. I make my own salsa so that's what I used (16 ounces is 2 cups of salsa). I consider this good comfort food. The presentation isn't beautiful, so if you're trying to impress someone, make something else.

Salsa Chicken Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
***As written, this recipe is a 3 b/c it's Bland. W/ my modifications, it's a 4. *Sauteed onion w/ chicken and seasoned it with my own "taco seasoning". (I used 3 boneless chicken breasts) *Reserved about less than 1/2 cup of the chicken broth and poured it in w/ the chicken & onion. *I used 1/2 cup of monterey cheese & 1/2 cup of cheddar, mixed it w/ 1 can of cream of chicken soup, then add it to the chicken. *I steamed the brown rice(I use 1 cup), but added 1 TBS of chicken bouillon in the water. *After the rice is done, I add it to the chicken mixture, then mix in 1 cup of my homemade salsa verde, add more seasoning if needed, MIX EVERYTHING WELL, then pour the whole thing into the foiled casserole dish. (easy clean up) *Cover w/ foil for 30MINS and then leave it off for the remaining 10MINS. *I let it set for at least 20MINS, then eat! MMMMM!

Easy Shake and Bake Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
I followed the recipe as written and it was delicious! You may want to double up the spices for more flavor though. That's what I did the second time around because I loved this recipe and I knew that if I doubled it, it would be better, and I was right!

Terry's Texas Pinto Beans

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
I've made this recipe MANY times. I followed the recipe as written. It's great! I like my food spicy, so I use 3 jalapenos! Garnish with some cilantro on top ;) It's good. By the way, you should try pork skins with these beans. Just use the pork skins as "tortilla chips" by scooping up some beans. It tastes so good. The whole combo is absolutely delicious. Try it out at least once :)

Easy Pizza Sauce III

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
I followed the recipe exactly and it came out wonderful. I also used "Jay's Signature Pizza Crust" from this site and together it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this recipe. Follow the recipe as written! I think the amount of oregano is FINE. I'm surprised some people said to use less than what the recipe calls for, but I think it gives way more flavor. Just take it the sauce and if you think it has enough oregano, just don't add the rest.

I also used "Easy Pizza Sauce III" from this site and wow, it was so delicious. I'm definitely making my own pizza from now on. :) I would recommend the recipe. Just follow instructions!!!

Strawberry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
I've made this a few times, and followed the recipe exactly. I think it tastes quite good and it is filling. I usually drink this smoothie before going to class when I'm in a rush. It's very quick to make and it's healthy for you. Oh, when I'm out of strawberries, I use powdered chocolate (the one you use to make chocolate milk for kids). It tastes just as delicious as when you add strawberries, so if you run out of strawberries, you can substitute it with chocolate. I definitely recommend this for people who want to make a quick healthy, delicious AND FILLING breakfast smoothie. If you usually don't have time to sit and eat breakfast at the table like me, I highly recommend you to try this recipe at least once. It's very good :)

Aunt Anne's Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
I really wanted to love this cake, but it just didn't taste very good. I think it has potential, but I'm not going to waste my time trying to 'save' it. I thought it was bland. I followed the recipe EXACTLY as written. I even made this recipe TWICE in case I did something wrong without knowing, but I CAREFULLY followed it again and it still tasted bland. I later baked another recipe from this site (Cranberry Upside Down Coffee Cake) and THAT one was ACTUALLY absolutely delicious.
