I have recently moved from the UK to the US where I am excited to be coming across new ingredients and recipes that I would never have considered (or even known about) before.
My favorite things to cook
For a long time I haven't enjoyed cooking at all; working and studying full time meant that cooking was just yet another chore.
Now I am not working, I am enjoying finding new things to cook - breads, bean dishes, slow cooker recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother used to do her week's cake baking on a Sunday afternoon and I have really fond memories of us spending hours in the kitchen baking up cakes and pies and desserts for the week. I would love to continue this tradition.
We also love to cook a roast for Sunday lunch with all the trimmings - one chance for us all to come together for a proper meal.
My cooking triumphs
Now I have more time, I am experimenting with lots of new things. I recently made foccacia for the first time and it was delicious. Tonight I made a traditional bread and butter pudding and it tastes delicious, just like my mother used to make!
My cooking tragedies
I am struggling to get to know the oven in the house we are renting. It cooks a lot hotter than I am used to so we have had a few burnt offerings that have been a bit disappointing.
I also have a bread maker and even on the lightest setting it tends to burn or over cook the outside of the loaf.
