About this Cook
I am a bit of a traditionalist who loves to experiment with leftovers. I love food, but I hate waste so I try to use every little scrap in some tasty concoction or other. Most of my recipes are my own creations - starting with a traditional recipe and adding my own twist depending on what's in the fridge. Cooking is my therapy with the added bonus of something delicious at the end!
My favorite things to cook
I'm always trying new things, so don't really have a "favorite", although Italian and Mexican have been old stand-bys. Recently, I'm trying my hand at Asian soups and East Indian cuisine.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving Dinner with all the trimmings - especially using great-grandmother's special turkey dressing. Never tasted better anywhere!
My cooking triumphs
Throwing things together into something that turns out delicious! However, it's hard when friends ask for my recipe and I try to remember what all I put in it!
My cooking tragedies
Truly my cooking tragedies are rare, but there's been a few. I once added a cup of lemon juice to soup stock (mistakenly thinking it was leftover whey from homemade yogurt). No matter what I did to that soup I couldn't overcome the sour lemon taste. Even the dogs weren't interested! Pucker!

Pumpkin Bars III
These pumpkin bars are delicious and were a big hit at home and work. I used craisins instead of raisins. Yum! The only criticism of this recipe is the maple glaze. 1/2 cup of powered sugar and 1 Tbls of maple syrup made a gummy lump. I kept adding maple syrup alternating with small amounts of water to thin it out enough to frost. Bars were great - glaze not so much.
