Wonderful! I am from the south, born and raised, and my momma ALWAYS put sugar in her cornbread, so speak for yourself Kay! Hot skillet or not it doesn't matter, this is a very good recipe and my kids sit anxious by the oven waiting for it to be ready. It's a great alternative to using lard..I personally don't want pig fat in my cornbread. You don't have to eat pig fat or shun sugar to be from the south..in fact I am enjoying this cornbread right now with my sweet tea and spicy chili that has brownSUGAR in it..*gasp*.
I also used whole wheat organic flour and cultured raw buttermilk and it turned out amazing! Thanks for sharing and my southern family LOVES your grandmother's recipe!
