Golden Sweet Cornbread

Nice and sweet, but it's fairly plain. Seems like it needs something else to make it extra special. Very easy to make though.

Hot Water Pie Crust I

Really happy with this recipe. The pastry was really flaky and buttery, probably due to me using butter instead of shortening. It was also easy to make, much easier than the traditional cold water method, which couldn't be over handled and the butter and equipment super cold. Too complicated. The hot water method is just so easy.

Pecan Pie V

It was a nice Pecan Pie, but I've made better, particularly Pecan Pie VII. It also took a long long time for the filling to cook. It was just as well I had froze the pastry in the pie tin before pouring the filling in. The pastry would've got burnt otherwise. One good thing is that it is easy to make.

Mediterranean Black Olive Bread

Really good bread and very soft. In fact, this is the softest bread I've ever made and I think it must be due to the three risings. Other breads I've made only require two rise. Anyway, like other reviewers have commented, lower the temp to 450 to 475 and for a shorter duration than 15 minutes. Otherwise, you will end up with a darker crust than it should be. This bread recipe is a definite keeper and I highly recommend it.

Passover Chocolate Chip Cocoa Meringues

Decided to try this recipe as I've got three egg whites in the freezer that needed to be used soon. Was disappointed with the outcome as the batter tasted really nice, but, like another reviewer, my egg whites did not whip to a stiff peak. Probably put in the flour in one batch too soon.

Golden Egg Bread

Beautiful bread, soft, moist and tasty. Easy to make by hand. Had instant dry yeast, so just mixed the yeast in with the dry ingredients, then add wet ingredients. Mix with wooden spoon and turn out on to a floured table, and knead. Will definitely make again. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

French Baguettes

I gave it a four star because it tasted really nice and I found it easy to knead as well. However, I won't be making this again. I was disappointed with its size; not as big as I had expected. I also thought the crust was a bit too soft. I like my baguette fairly crusty and omitted the yolk as I was aware that water makes a crustier bread. But, that didn't even help out.

Ciabatta Bread

I love making bread, but didn't enjoy making this ciabatta. The dough was very runny and I did resist the temptation to add more flour after the first proof. In the second proof, the dough started to spread, like the Blob, and did not rise. Halfway through the second proof, I ended up putting it into a loaf tin. Tasted okay, but not the ciabatta that I am like. I think I will just go to my favourite bakery for ciabatta next time.

Apple Cranberry Streusel Custard Pie

The mixture was easy to make (I made my own pastry) and after previous reviews, I used a deep dish flan tin. So, the batter fitted exactly and there was no overflow during the cooking. I thought it tasted okay the first day, but really nice the next day. I didn't plan on making it again in future, but my household loved it and requested that I make it again.

Black Magic Cake

Absolutely amazingly moist, fudgy and chocolatey cake. Very easy to make as well; could be a one-bowl cake, but chose to use two bowls to mix the liquids. After reading previous reviews on the cake crumbling, I cooked the cake for the whole 40 minutes and left it in the fridge to set before icing it. I also halved the recipe, but regret it now as it came out quite small. My only criticism of the cake was that it shrank when cooling down. Other than that, one of the best chocolate cakes I have ever made. Thank you for sharing the recipe.

Boiled Bagels

Nice bagels, but not the dense types that I like. These bagels were chewier. Another problem was that there was too much salt in it. Having said all that, this was a really good bagel recipe for newbies to bagel making, like myself. It was so easy to make and tasted so nice (even if not dense) that I made two batches in one day. But, as other reviewers have commented, they are a smallish-sized 12 bagels. Bagels I've bought from stores were double the size of my bagels.

Pecan Pie VII

This is a delicious pie. I couldn't stop at one slice. The filling is rich and sweet and tasted a bit like butterscotch. I actually used demerara sugar because I ran out of brown sugar and I wondered if that altered the taste of filling. Like other reviewers found, it was a lot of filling and I ended up making a little pie as well. I found the filling wasn't really set. Never ate or made pecan pie, so not sure if that's normal. Set or not, it is a delicious pie and I will definitely make it again. Thank you for sharing the recipe.
