Mustard Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2012
Great recipe! My fav dressing so far. I made some slight alterations- halved the amount of oil ( used extra light olive oil in place of veg oil ), didn't have white vinegar at hand so used raspberry vinegar instead, and omitted the hot sauce ( as hubby doesn't like anything remotely spicy!). Was lovely with a salad of spinach leaves, strawberries, green apples, roasted almonds, dried cranberries and feta cheese ( see spinach strawberry salad recipe in this website!). Thank you! Update: forgot to mention - did not add 2 tsp salt ( I probably wouldn't add so much salt to any dish) 1/2 a tsp seemed to suffice for us!

Papa Drexler's Bavarian Pretzels

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2011
Thank you for the great recipe! It's my first time baking bread and I had low expectations- but it turned out amazing! Only changes I made 1) I needed more flour - almost 3.5 to 4 cups and I used 1 cup bread flour and the remaining self-raising flour. 2) added 2 tablespoons of brown sugar instead of 1 teaspoon white sugar. 3) brushed with melted butter before putting in to oven. 4) also made "mini" pretzels abt 20 of them- tried to get the "rope" to be as thin as possible before twisting them in to shape. 5) also let the dough rest and rise for abt 30 mins before working on it. Turned out beautiful after 8 mins in the oven. Served hot with another coat of melted butter and cinnamon sugar .. Yumm! Everyone at home loved it. I do have some questions though- after it's cooled for few hrs, what's the best way to reheat them before serving? I placed them in the microwave for 10 secs ( may be not the best idea, was lazy to reheat the oven) and they had become more chewy and harder and "flatter".. Any suggestions on how I can serve them / reheat them so that they taste as good as they come out of the oven? Thanks again for the great recipe and all the reviews- will surely make them again :)

Lemon Icebox Pie III

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2011
Thank you for the great recipe! This was really easy to make, it took me barely 15 mins and it s an impressive dessert, esp if u have guests and u re rushed for time - just make ahead of time and refrigerate. I made some modifications, however , after reading some of the reviews. I used only 1 stick of the cream cheese (8 oz Philadelphia) and substituted the other for ready to use whipped cream ( about 300ml). The rest was the same, 1 can of milkmaid (sweetened condensed milk) and the juice and zest of 2 large lemons. Used premade graham pie crust as suggested. Used a electric beater to beat it all together smoothly. Came out beautiful! not to sweet and the lemon flavour was just nice. Agree that if I had used 2 sticks of cream cheese, it might have been too cream cheesy... Everyone at home loved it and will definitely be making it again- thanks again for the wonderful recipe and all the reviewers for their suggestions!

Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2011
I made mine with a mixture of butter and mayo to spread on the bread and used shredded cheddar cheese. Also took the liberty to add some halved black olives ( pitted canned olives) - the cheese olive combo was good. This together with some left over bruschettas and portobello mushroom soup made for a simple yet tasty dinner! Hubby loved it!

Chocolate Cakes with Liquid Centers

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2011
Yummy! Thanks for the super easy receipe- only alterations I made: added a dash of vanilla essence and a bit more sugar (almost 1/2 cup instead of 1/4) as I was using bittersweet choc and we like it sweeter.. The top wasn't done at 8 mins so cooked for 11 mins in total and it turned out great with the inside still soft.. But I guess it must be eaten soon as after a few hours, the entire cake was more solid. May be will cook for just 9- 10 mins next time. Thanks again for the wonderful receipe :)
