German Rye Bread

Reviewed: May 4, 2011
What a good bread! Based upon the suggestions, I did reduce the molasses to 1/4 cup. I used dark, and I could taste the bite.. it was yummy, but more would have been excessive. I let the dough rise for 2 hours, punched it down, and then let it rise for another 2 hours. Then, I rolled the dough out and filled it with homemade thousand island dressing, corned beef, sauerkraut and swiss cheese. I braided the dough over the stuffing and baked it for 45 minutes.. it turned out fantastic. Lots of flavor, the whole thing was a hit with my entire family!

Bundt Dutch Apple Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2013
Oh, my goodness. This is an amazing cake! I made it exactly as presented, and it was perfect. I was worried about the cook time because of the reviewer who said it was overcooked at 70 minutes. I checked it at 50 minutes, again at 60, and left it in for the full 70 minutes. It was perfect, not too dry or overcooked at all. I used a simple powdered sugar, milk and vanilla glaze on it after it came out of the oven. My entire family loves it, and are just amazed at how delicious it is. This cake just entered my family's recipe book of repeat recipes, a rare and unusual honor. Thank you for sharing it!

Pretzel Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2012
Oh, how happy I was to try this recipe! I had some of Costco's pretzel rolls a while back and loved them, but Costco is 90 miles away. I tried this recipe and made them into small dinner rolls. They were better than the Costco ones. Next time, I will double the batch. This recipe made 8 dinner rolls. They kept very well. I will freeze some next time. Perfect with a ham and swiss sandwich with spicy mustard!

Unbelievable Fish Batter

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2013
Very tasty batter. I followed suggestions on the baking powder and reduced it to 2 tablespoons, added a few spices, and it turned out wonderful. Light and crisp! My favorite has always been beer batter but this family doesn't have beer at all anymore. This is a great substitute, just as good as beer batter. Thanks!

Irish Potato Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2012
Excellent recipe. It is perfectly spiced, moist and delicious. The potatoes make for a dense, wonderfully rich cake recipe. This is like taking a bite out of a dessert made by my Great Grandma. Thanks for sharing, this recipe has now become a permanent favorite in our house. Vanilla ice cream is yummy with it. :)

Sweet Potato and Apple Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2012
I made this a couple days ago for a barbeque, and it was excellent. I did modify it a little! I used yams instead of sweet potatoes, so I did not boil them first. I just peeled and sliced them in layers with the apples and brown sugar. I also changed the topping. One family member can't eat nuts, so I used oatmeal instead in the topping. Oh, and I added raisins. The whole thing came out great. Most people went back for seconds, and a few for thirds! Thanks for the great recipe, I have added it because I will make it again.

Wow, these are amazing! I like the other type of pecan pie bar too, but these are better. I made the recipe as written, and WOW, they are so good! Oooey gooey perfect. Not sure why others had trouble with it, because this was an easy, perfect recipe. Thanks so much for sharing, this one is going into the family recipe book.

Easy Slow Cooker Carne Guisada

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2013
What an easy, flavorful meal. I made it as described and it turned out delicious. Very mild heat but lots of flavor. We will be making this again. I read several of the reviews before making this, and had a few concerns. I am very glad I didn't make any changes. Perfect the way it is!

Milly's Oatmeal Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2013
I wish I could give this recipe 6 stars. I have made 3 pans of these in 3 days now for different potluck type events, and they have gotten rave reviews every time. They literally fly off the platter! Delicious, easy, and simple. My kind of recipe! Thank you for providing it. I added chocolate chips and raisins twice, and just raisins the last time. Wonderful every time.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2012
GREAT recipe. I have made 3 batches of these now, to the delight of everyone who eats them, including myself! I have varied the recipe just a little. Instead of milk, I use buttermilk, and I add a tablespoon of cinnamon to the frosting mix. They are truly delicious, I am so impressed.

Butterscotch Pudding I

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2012
This was such a good recipe. I made it just like the recipe was written, and had no issues with it at all. I used a whisk to stir it and it turned out perfect. I did add a pinch of extra salt because I used unsalted butter, but those were my only changes. Thanks, I will make this again.

BBQ Oatmeal Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2012
What a great meatloaf! My husband and I both enjoyed this. It is quite the change from the traditional meatloaf, which we also like. I had no problem with the recipe. I substituted whole oats for rolled oats because that is what I had, and I used frozen carrots that I chopped up fine because I didn't have any fresh ones. It turned out perfect anyhow! We fed the inlaws and a friend with it as well, and had nothing but compliments. Thanks for sharing, Jeffery!

Stuffed Eggplant

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2012
Really good recipe. I modified a little. This is a dry household, so no wine here ever. I used chicken broth instead. I also added 1/2 cup of ricotta cheese, mainly because it needed to be used. Glad I did, as it gave the stuffing a smooth, cheesy flavor. I also reduced the amount of crumbs to 1 cup. Really delicious, this recipe is a keeper.

Red Velvet Cake I

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2012
This is the original Waldorf-Astoria Red Velvet recipe, with the exception that it doesn't say to heap the tablespoons of cocoa. It takes a bit of work, but the results are amazingly good. The cakes turn out wonderful, but keep an eye on them. If they are overcooked, they turn out dry. In my oven at 350, two 9 inch pans take 28 minutes. When I lived at a lower altitude, it took a few minutes less time. The only change I make to the recipe is to substitute unsalted butter for the shortening and reduce the food coloring to one ounce. In my opinion, butter makes for a richer, moister cake and one ounce of red food coloring makes it plenty red. The frosting can be challenging, especially the first time. I have never had a problem with lumps in the flour and milk mixture. I whisk it as it cooks. It doesn't take long to thicken, and I stir it the entire time. It may seem like the white sugar in the frosting recipe will not blend in. It does. After combining the four and milk mixture with the sugar, butter and vanilla mixture, expect to beat the frosting on high speed with an electric mixer for 8 or 9 minutes. The frosting comes out a lot like whipped cream when it is finished. This is a very old recipe, and I hate to see that credit isn't given to its origins. It is an award winner, too. Wonderful recipe!

Georgia's Tennessee Jam Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2012
What an exceptional cake! It was tender and flavorful. My husband loves spice cake and he loved this. The only thing I did that I will change the next time around is to use seedless blackberry jam, as the recipe specifies. I had jam with seeds in it and thought it would be ok. It was... but the seeds were throughout the cake, and crunched. Would have been better without. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful recipe. I am making it for the second time this weekend, and had to take a moment to comment on how incredible it is.
