Tomatillo Salsa Verde

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2011
Excellent recipe! I added 1 tsp chicken bouillon powder. I only used 1 cup of water.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2011
Excellent! I doubled the recipe and layered the potatoes, onions and cheese rather than just pouring the cheese on top. When I first took it out of the oven I was worried it was too liquidy, but after sitting a few minutes, the excess liquid absorbed into the potatoes for the perfect consistency.

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
Excellent! They are pretty dry, but I guess that's a bean burger for you. I doubled the egg and breadcrumbs, halved the cumin, and added some corn. Perfect consistency. Slathering them with some good sauce of your choice helps compensate for the dryness.

My Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2011
I don't care for seafood, but my husband said these were as good as any he has had in a restaurant. I made a couple of alterations: double the mayonnaise, add 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper, add another egg, and add 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce. I served it with garlic aioli.

Lemon-Cream Cheese Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2011
Good, but they are a little dry. The frosting is better with some added lemon zest.

Positively delicious cornbread, the best I have had! Works great as muffins, too!

Mound Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2010
Yummy! I used a 8x8 in. pan, used only 1 cup graham crackers, added an extra cup of coconut flakes, halfed the chocolate chips, and used the full amount of milk.

Sugarless Pumpkin Pie II

Not very good. It needs at least double the amount of sweetener.

Crackle Top Molasses Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2010
I used only 1/2 tsp ginger and added a touch of salt. Taste great, but I wish they were softer/chewier.

Stephen's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2010
These are good cookies. I wouldn't say they necessarily deserve the overly hyped up reviews - they're a fairly basic-tasting chocolate chip cookie - but they do taste good and are worth repeating.

White Chocolate and Cranberry Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2010
Positively delightful! I substituted vanilla for brandy and added a pinch of salt. 8 minutes on 375 yielded golden brown edges and a gooey center. Will definitely make again!

Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2010
Good. Not dazzling, but good. It needs a little extra salt. I also used an extra couple of tablespoons of bbq sauce. Next time I'm going to add some additional spices and herbs to give it more flavor (thyme, pinch of rosemary, chili powder, etc.)

Chicken Tikka Masala

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2010
WAY TOO SALTY! I even used about 1/4 less of the salt it asks for and it was still way too salty. It totally ruined what might have been an enjoyable meal. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of one is because I'm choosing to give this recipe the benefit of the doubt that it otherwise would have been good had it not been for the salt. Next time I'm also going to add some ingredients that typically go in more authentic tikka masala recipes for an added boost of flavor: ground almonds, cardamom, coriander, and garam masala.

French Onion Soup Gratinee

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
Excellent soup! I used all regular onions instead of red and added 3 TBS of flour to the caramelized onions, stirring for a couple of minutes before adding the liquid.

Caramels

Turned out perfectly the first time! Will definitely make again and try some variations (chocolate, nuts, etc). Update: I have now made these caramels twice. Perfect both times. These caramels are irresistible!

Babe Ruth Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
Well, they don't taste anything like Baby Ruth bars, but they're pretty good. Next time I'm going to add a little extra peanut butter. Also, some other reviews commented that these are very messy, something I didn’t find to be true. If you follow the recipe as instructed and be sure to press the mass firmly down into the dish and allow it to fully cool, they cut very easily and hold their form well.

Mom's Best Peanut Brittle

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
Positively the best peanut brittle I've tried! I put the brittle in a ziploc bag and it was better the next day - still plenty brittle but not quite as brutal on the teeth!
