Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2013
YUM- these are rich, chocolaty and delightful! I refrigerated them overnight which helped with the sticky dough. Also, as other reviewers suggested I transferred the dough straight from the cookie dough scoop to the powder sugar. Handling it less helped with the stickiness as well. Thanks for this keeper recipe!

Zippy Chicken Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2013
This was really yummy! The cubed chicken didn't get very tender, so next time I am going to try this in the crock pot. However, the flavor of the broth was delicious and we really enjoyed this soup.

Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2013
With a few tweaks, this was a wonderful soup. It definitely needed veggies- carrots and celery were a must. I sauteed these for a few minutes first with some onion. Also- as another reviewer mentioned, 1% milk was rich enough in this creamy soup. We will make this again- thanks!

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2012
These are wonderful! As suggested by other reviews, I added an extra 1/4 cup of flour, did not soften the butter, and baked at 340 degrees. They came out perfect.

Easy Pasta Bake

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2012
Jenwee- I am so glad you shared this easy, delicious recipe with me! It reminded me a lot of lasagna but was so easy to make. There is nothing I would change about this- we loved it as is. This would make a lovely dinner with a salad and sourdough bread. This one's a keeper :)

Gourmet Mushroom Risotto

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2012
This was delicious! I decreased the mushrooms by 1/2 as it seemed like a lot of mushrooms and we loved it.

Slow Cooker Chicken Pot Pie Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2012
I put NO bullion cubes, no garlic salt, and reduced the celery salt to 1/2 tsp and this did NOT need more salt. I reduced the pepper to 1/2 tsp. and added minced garlic to replace the garlic salt that I left out. We thought this was tasty and I will make it again!

Arrabbiata Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2012
As written, this was a very spicy sauce. I added some water to cut the spice a bit and we thought it was perfect. Delicious- thanks for sharing!

Kayda's Shepard's Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2011
I made this dish for the 'Why doesn't anyone make my recipe?' challenge. I thought this was a good starting point for shepherd's pie, but needs some tweaking. Between the meat, gravy, butter, cheese, and bacon, there was just too much grease. I also felt the dish could have benefitted from some more veggies (carrots, celery, onion). Also, 2 tbsp. Seasoning was way too much- the dish didn't really need much added salt. I chose to put the cheese and bacon on top of the potatoes because I liked how it looked visually. Thanks for a great starting point, techgurl- I will keep playing with this one!

Almond Sherbet

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2011
I made this for the 'Why doesn't anyone make my recipe?' challenge. The flavor is delicious! I would have given it 5 stars except that I found it way too sweet. If I had passed on the added sugar, it would have been perfect. Thanks, Cuppycake!

Gluten Free Strawberry Rhubarb Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2011
This was my first attempt at gluten free baking- and I am so glad that I got this experience! I was able to find the brown rice flour, tapioca, and coconut flour at my local Fred Meyer with no trouble. However, I was unable to find garfava flour (made from garbanzo benas and fava beans I have learned...) so I just subbed extra brown rice flour for this. My husband and I both thought the flavor of this bread was absolutely delcious. It smelled so good as it baked that I could hardly wait to eat it. The one thing I will say is due to the sheer volume of fruit (2 cups puree plus additional 3 cups acutal fruit) it made this a very, very moist bread. I think next time I would tweak that a bit so that it is a little less liquidy as I thought this compromised the texture just a bit. All in all though- great flavor and I would NEVER guess this is gluten free- its delicious!

Linda- thanks to you and Ruthie both for this amazingly flavorful chutney. I made it last night to go over white fish (trout). It was so flavorful- my husband and I both loved it.

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2011
These absolutely melt in your mouth. This may be the best chicken I have EVER tried. I omitted the sugar and salt just for personal preference. This is a big time keeper.

Awesome Spicy Beef Kabobs OR Haitian Voodoo Sticks

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2011
Yum! As other reviewers suggested, I did cut the cayenne in half as I let my sirloin marinate for ~10 hours. The only change I will make next time is to omit the salt as I felt the bouillon provided enough. Otherwise, excellent. Thanks!

Buttermilk Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2011
This wasn't bad, it just wasn't quite what I was hoping for. I wanted a dense pound cake- similar in texture and flavor to the store bought kind. This was not too dense and for us, the 3 cups of sugar seemed to be too much. I may tweak this and try again, but I think it can be improved upon as written.

Rhubarb Crumb Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2011
The flavor of this cake was delicious. But I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with how the crumb topping just melted into the cake. If I make this again, I will tweak the directions to try to keep it more in a crumb form.

Basil-Lime Sorbet

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2011
This was refreshing! I opted to make my simple syrup on the stove, add lime juice, then add basil leaves- let those steep in the lime/syrup mixture for 2 hours, then strained the basil leaves out. The sorbet had an excellent and refreshing flavor. The amount of basil taste was just right. Thanks for sharing!

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2011
We really enjoyed this! I really wish I could give it 4.5 stars, because the flavor was really excellent. The only thing that I did find was that between the beef bullion, soy sauce, and added salt, it was just too salty for our taste. Next time, I will omit the added salt and see how it turns out. Otherwise, we really enjoyed it- thanks!

Whole Wheat Pasta

Reviewed: May 24, 2011
I absolutely love whole wheat pasta- the flavor is more complex than pasta using just AP flour. We really enjoyed these noodles with a simple marinara sauce, however, I think it would be good with some Italian sausage in the mix, too :) As other reviewers said, I did need to add just a little bit of water for my dough to hold together well. I also up-ed the salt to 1 tsp. and the olive oil to 1 Tbsp. just based on personal taste. Thought this was a great recipe and will use it again- thanks!

Bacon wrapped Pork Loin with Spicy Sweet Glaze

Reviewed: May 18, 2011
Kye- I was assigned this recipe as part of the "why doesn't anyone make my recipe?" challenge. If I could give it 6 stars, I would. This is hands down the best way I have ever eaten pork loin. The rub was an excellent blend of spices and the glaze provide a subtle sweetness that was a perfect balance. If you are making this recipe- follow kye's advice closely on the meat temperature (it is worth the investment in a nice meat thermometer)- if you do, your pork will come out cooked perfectly. I always have a tendency to over cook my pork, but not this time. The only thing that I might change is cutting back the salt in the rub just a tad (maybe 1 tsp?), but that is just personal preference- it really was beyond perfect as is. Thank you, kye- this recipe was a pleasure to make and eat!!!
