Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2001
Wonderful cookies! I'm not a cookie pro but these did me proud. Dough was easy to handle, even w/out refrigeration. The snappy flavor and "crispy outside, chewy inside" texture should be a hit with my family this Christmas. Thanks for the recipe!

Whipped Sweet Potatoes with Pears

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2002
Thank you for posting this recipe! I couldn't locate my copy from last year. This dish is a treat! Sweet potatoes and pears make a wonderful combo and it's a nice change from the standard marshmallow topped casserole. Try it!

Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2003
Tasty, quick and a great use for leftover rotisserie chicken. I only had 5 bouillon cubes so I used 4 cans of low sodium chicken broth plus 2 cups of water and as another reviewer suggested, I broke up thin spaghetti noodles to substitute for egg noodles. The broth was a tad salty so I'll adjust for that next time but overall, my family loved it! Thanks for sharing!

Walnut Balls

Yum! Perfect Christmas cookies. I've wanted to make these for years and finally decided it was time. So easy and my husband loves them! His mom used to make them so I can carry on the tradition. Thanks for sharing!

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2003
Had to add my comments as well. As another reviewer wrote, I had 1 lb. of tilapia on hand (in the freezer), and wasn't sure how to prepare it. Came to Allrecipes.com and as usual, was rewarded with another great dish! Tasty, easy to prepare and I had all ingredients on hand. Used fresh parmesan. My husband, who is NOT a fish lover, said it was the best he'd had and went back for seconds. My 4 year old daughter, while not bowled over, ate it without complaint. Now I know what to do with tilapia or other fresh fish. Delicious! Thanks Phoebe!

Never Fail Pie Crust I

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2004
I had a terrible time with this crust. Based on the other reviews, it looked like the answer to my pie crust prayers. It mixed well and rolled out beautifully but stuck to the waxed paper and fell apart as I tried to get it into the pie plate. I had to patch it together. When it baked, it had an odd texture and appearance. Sorry, but I'll just keep looking for that "never fail" recipe. And there's always Pillsbury for a stand-by.

Butter Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2004
I had high hopes for this crust, based on the reviews, but it was disappointing. It could be me, though. I added 1 tablespoon of sugar and used the food processor to cut in the butter. The dough formed well, rolled out nicely and went into the pie plate fairly easily. I made lemon meringue pie so I baked the crust first. It shrank terribly, didn't hold the shape of the crimped edge at all and was tough and chewy. Perhaps I overmixed but I thought I was being careful. I may try again but I've seriously considered giving up on homemade crust.

Brunch on the Bayou

Reviewed: Feb. 29, 2004
Excellent! Made this for my Sunday School class and it disappeared quickly. This dish was easy to prepare the night before and baked up beautifully in the morning. The cheese didn't brown on top but I think it may have to be broiled for that to happen. I can't rate it as far as kid pleasing but the adults seemed to love it and I was asked for the recipe.

Italian Anisette Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2004
Easy, delicious, just what I was looking for. Perfect anise flavor in a not-too-sweet cookie. My 4 yr. old daughter helped me decorate them. I used 1 tbsp. baking powder. My grandmother makes something similar to this at Easter and now I think I've found the recipe we will use for our Easter cookies!

Magic Mango Bread

Reviewed: May 5, 2005
Fabulous! This bread is moist, sweet, and addictive. It doesn't have tremendous mango flavor but it's still awesome. Even my 5 year old tried some and loved it, which surprised me. Made a couple of changes: replaced the oil with applesauce and used pecans because I was out of walnuts. The loaves didn't rise a lot but they turned out of the pans easily. Next time I may reduce the sugar a bit. Definitely a keeper to have on hand when mangoes are in season!

Pope's Valentine Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2006
Wonderful cookies! The dough has a nice texture, no refrigeration is needed and it rolls out beautifully. My daughter and I made heart cookies using this recipe. We love shortbread cookies and these turned out quite nicely, dressed up with a little icing and edible pink glitter. We'll be making these again!

Braided Easter Egg Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2006
Sorry Holly, but this was disappointing. I don't know what went wrong since I followed the instructions to the letter, except for baking time which had to be shortened at the suggestion of other reviewers, and I have made yeast breads in the past. I had to add extra flour just to knead the dough because it was a sticky mess. It didn't seem to rise properly and I used fresh yeast, covered it with a damp towel and kept it in a warm place. While it was baking, one of the eggshells popped! I haven't eaten the bread but so far, I'm upset with the results. I hope it tastes better than it looks.

Light and Fluffy Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2006
Yummy! We had this for supper tonight. I used regular mayo and cheese since that's what I had and I made my own crust. Followed instructions exactly. Hubby and 6 yr. old daughter loved it. Wonderful flavor, bakes up perfectly to a nice, golden brown. I've made quiches before but none were so tasty. I will definitely make this again. Thanks for sharing! Note: I've also made this sans crust since I'm the only one who likes crust in our family and it turns out just fine that way too.

Italian Wedding Soup I

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2006
Delicious! I've always loved Italian Wedding soup but never made it. I'm so glad I finally did! It was a breeze to make and my little girl loved it. The meatballs turned out beautifully in taste and consistency. We love soup so I plan to add this recipe to my permanent file. Thanks Star, for sharing!

Tiramisu Layer Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2007
First of all, I love Tiramisu so I thought the flavors of this cake were very good and it gave me a reason to use the white cake mix I happened to have. I found it easy to make and assemble. However, it wasn't worth the expense involved. Between the whipping cream, mascarpone cheese, Kahlua and semisweet chocolate, it's an expensive undertaking. I did follow the recipe exactly. I made it for an office going away party and while my coffee loving coworkers seemed to enjoy it, there were no rave reviews. This is a dessert that is tasty and presents nicely but I could have purchased a real Tiramisu at the grocery store for much less. I don't know that I'd make this again.

Fluffy White Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2008
Absolutely perfect! I had a craving for Wacky Cake and was tired of my usual powdered sugar icing so I tried this instead. I wasn't sure if the cream of tartar in my cupboard was still good but it worked. As other reviewers have said, this recipe makes plenty of light, fluffy, glossy, easy to spread frosting with a nice marshmallow flavor. With an egg white frosting, the key is to have a clean bowl and beaters without a speck of yolk. I don't yet own a stand mixer so I spent several minutes on it with my hand mixer but the results were worth it. My 8 year old daughter helped with it too. Why bother with store bought icing when you can make your own so easily? I can see lots of variations with this basic recipe too, as others have mentioned, with different extracts and using food color to tint. Fun!

Zucchini Coconut Loaf

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2008
I made this for the first time last night and it turned out beautifully, very moist and flavorful. I did omit the nuts and substituted applesauce for the oil. I would never have thought to add coconut to zucchini bread but it works! This is a keeper.

Baked Chicken Nuggets

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2008
Great chicken recipe! I followed it exactly with the exception of placing the nuggets on a wire rack and spraying them with Pam before baking. They turned out moist with good flavor. My husband and 8 yr. old loved them. I served the chicken alongside Creamy Twice Baked Potatoes from this site and green beans, for a delicious meal. Glad to add this to my collection.
