Quick and Easy Summer Limoncello Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2014
This is a very nice cake. I did add a tsp. of lemon extract after reading reviews and I will do that when I make the cake again. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars (because I made an addition). The cake reminded us of a pound cake, and I served it with blueberry sauce as another reviewer did. I must say I thought this was a bundt cake because of the picture, and didn't discover it was an 8" cake until the day of my event. I made it in the bundt pan anyways, and it was small of course because there wasn't enough batter, but it was still pretty, and good. Next time I will increase the ingredients by 50% and I'm hoping it will be a normal-sized bundt cake with that change.

Best Baked French Fries

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2014
Just used regular baking potatoes, and have made this several times experimenting with different thicknesses. ALL turned out amazing! If you cut the fries thin, do cut back on the time, though or they will burn! The sugar must be the trick here, because I've never had oven fries turn out this good!

Best Steak Marinade in Existence

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2014
Did not have the time to pull out the blender, so thought I'd skip that step. Can't imagine that blending could make a difference, but next time I'll try it just to see if it does. Other than that, I followed the recipe exactly. DH and I thought this was incredible and loved it! Will definitely be making again!

Dip For The Stars

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2013
Followed this recipe exactly and it was outstanding. That being said, I do have a few comments about what I would do differently the next time I make it, and there WILL be a next time. As others stated, this does make a huge amount. I too split it in half so I could take it to two functions. While there is certainly enough of the cheese/butter mixture to do this, I found that I used the entire amount of sundried tomatoes, pine nuts and pesto on one portion. So I doubled the amount of those items to split the recipe in half. Also, if you are thinking it's going to look like the featured photo, it isn't. (It still makes a nice presentation, however.) Firstly, sundried tomatoes are not bright red. Secondly, there is no way I was able to "spread the pesto over the pine nuts without it all getting mixed up. Again, did not affect the taste at all. Feta cheese is salty on it's own, so make sure you do use the unsalted butter. I drained my pesto of some of the oil, and used dried tomatoes (not the ones packed in oil) so that it wasn't so oily per the recommendation of other commenters. I used a 6" round cake pan lined with plastic wrap and it was a great size and came out of the pan beautifully. Let this come to room temp before serving or it will crumble instead of spread. It went over very well at both funtions I took it to, and I came home with empty plates! :)

Beer Margaritas

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2013
This recipe is fantastic as written! VERY easy, and even folks who don't care for beer won't be able to taste it. I did use Bud Lite Lime but won't hesitate to use plain old garden variety beer next time. This will become a summer-time standard at our house!

Caramel Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2012
As other reviewers suggested, I doubled the oat mixture but only used one cup of butter. Worked out great for a 9 x 13 pan. I lined it with parchment to make removing/cutting easier. I also used the caramel bits instead of individualy wrapped candies. These were delicious and very well-recieved at work! Delicious!

Slider-Style Mini Burgers

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2012
Followed recipe exactly but cut recipe in half for two ppl. Used Hawaiin dinner rolls but sliced them in half all together in their rectangle. Let the mixture cool some before placing on the bottom half of the rolls. Used my hands to form large rectangle on top of the rolls. Placed the top half of the rolls on top THEN scored with a knife all the way thru to separate all the burgers. Rated 4 stars only because they got too hard on the bottom as written, almost burnt. Will def make again, but will cut back time to 20 min. May try no cookie sheet as others suggested also. They were delicious! I even ate one cold the next day and it was very good! With the decrease in time (or maybe lower temp?) they will be a 5+! Will be making these often! UPDATE: Made again and placed the foil-wrapped package on a cooling rack which I had placed over a cookie sheet and only baked for 20 min. No burnt bottoms! PERFECT!

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2012
Based on other's reviews, I added only half the honey (figured I would taste it at that point then add the rest after tasting if I thought it needed it) and that was PLENTY sweet enough. A matter of personal preference tho. The sauce was indeed outstanding and I will most certainly make it again. I did not have anchovy paste on hand but will now make a point to pick some up and try it with that addition. Everything else as written and my family was very, very pleased with the result!

Irish Pound Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
This cake was easy and delicious! I served it for dessert on St. Patrick's day, so I added green food coloring paste for a delightful color. Also, a topping of pistachios, butter, and sugar went into the bundt pan first and was a great addition to an already fantastic cake. I had no trouble with the batter overflowing as did a previous reviewer. Perhaps the bundt pans were different sizes? I will most definitely be making this cake again!

Authentic Louisiana Red Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2012
Excellent! I used a little bacon grease instead of the olive oil, added ham base to the water, doubled the cajun seasoning (recipe on this website) and added no additional cayenne pepper (personal preference on the spice/heat level). The veggies cooked down to the point that even my daughter who does not like peppers/onions gobbled it up and was none the wiser! I did find andouille sausage and feel that "made" the dish. Five of us enjoyed this very much and there was slightly enough left over for a few lunches the next day. Will DEFINITELY make this again!

The Best Meatloaf

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2011
My husband and I LOVED this meatloaf. He is a big fan of Heinz 57 sauce though! The only deviation I made was to use 1/2 lb. of sweet Italian sausage and 1 lb. of ground beef because I selected a ground beef that was 90% lean and I was afraid it would be too dry otherwise. It was excellent! What did not get eaten that night was taken in his lunch every day thereafter until it was gone!

Aaron's Missouri Burger

Reviewed: May 25, 2011
Excellent! Have made several times and had no trouble with mixture holding together. Have done both in a skillet and on the grill. Cut back on the red pepper flakes if serving to folks who aren't into "spicy hot". Definitely a KEEPER!!!

One Hundred Thousand Calorie Bars

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2011
Took the advice of "baker" and did not melt the butter and that did not work out well for me! The 2nd time I cut the butter back and that ALSO didn't work out so well. Found that if I followed the recipe exactly as written it was fantastic. I did use pecans instead of walnuts, and had to bake the bottom layer 6 min. instead of 3 but that's just my oven. This recipe is to die for and requested over and over.

Corn Dog Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2010
This recipe is a KEEPER! Very good. I was tempted to make some changes, such as eliminating the sage based on some comments stating it made the dish taste like stuffing, and I also thought there was too much celery. However I followed the recipe exactly and was glad I did. I will not adjust anything. Recipe was perfect as is!
