Banana Blast II

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2010
Made as is (which is how I rate - instead of changing the entire recipe then rating the new recipe) it is exactly what it seems. A perfectly adequate quick simple thin smoothie that kids will drink because it is cold and reminds them of a milk shake. It is also a perfect BASE for an excellent smoothie. Vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, yogurt, and other fruit all kick this up a notch. You and/or the kids can have fun experimenting and seeing what does what when added or removed.

Yam Smoothie

Might be an acquired taste or consistency. Sort of like cold sweet potato pie shake.

Carrot Cake III

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
Instead of making one two layer cakes, I separated the layers out. Then I accidentally ate one of the layers. Didnt make that many changes, but did add the 8 oz can of crushed pineapple. I think the frosting did it - I used less sugar, but it was still great.

Sweet Potato Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
SWEET POTATO SCONES That would be the appopriate title, but maybe fewer people would try them. But if the title was right, fewer would expect them to rise like Grands fluffy biscuits. Okay, I really dont like when people change recipes then rate them on the 'new' recipe - but here goes. I used 1 cp + a lil bit more of flour. Used almost 1/2 stick of butter (no shortening) added 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder (per other reviews) and a lil baking soda. I put a little vanilla in half the batch. I also only used 2-3 teaspoons of milk. I didnt go thru the final step, putting the dough on the flour. I just mixed the dough with my hands and pinched out the 'biscuits' and molded them in my hands.

Creamy Sweet Potato With Ginger Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
If you do not have a blender, make it any way. You can mash it with a fork, or just eat it as is. The flavor will still be tasty. I'd only had sweet potatoes cook one of three ways. The combination of these flavors was a nice surprise.

Vegan Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
As has been said before this is bland if made as is. Like a clear broth. If that is what you want, you will like this. But there is no reason why vegan food cant be delicious. My advise. Make it as written. 5-10 minutes before it is done, taste it. The last 5 minutes wont change the taste. If you dont like it, modify it per the reviews. I followed most of Athena_Girls advise (minus the red pepper) and a lil garlic (per another review) and the soup was a nice surprise! I was leery about the peanut butter, but it worked out great. If you arent sure about it, start with 1 Tablespoon. Once you see what it does, you'll like it. I also used sweet potatoes/yams. The flavor was great! 4+ stars with the modifications. Oh, I think I ended up using 4 cups of water. Add a bit of flour if you need to thicken it.

Pepper Chicken Piccata

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2008
Ok, so I only had half a red pepper, but would that really have added THAT much flavor. This strenghtens my belief that 'tasty' and 'flavorful' are defined differently by culture.

Zucchini Brownies

Four out of five people said it was good. So I rated it 4 out of 5. Please taste the batter before you bake it. Even if you dont like the brownies, this is the most delicious batter

Chicken Breasts in Caper Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2008
Light, gourmet taste. If you are making a gravy out of this, I cant imagine how terrible it would taste. I'm not really sure how people can change an entire recipe, then grade it down. You're not grading this recipe, you are grading what you made.

White Chicken Enchilada Slow-Cooker Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2007
Awesome! I was suprised at how good and creamy this was. If you are looking for a lower cal/fat alternative, use light sourcream. The cream and soup make a suprisingly cheesesy consistency. Leave the cheese out altogether or sprinkle it on after its done and you've tasted it. You will be suprised. You dont even need the cheese. I used a can of tomatoes with the green chilies inside w/ lemon, then chopped up a tiny bit of green chile for added bite. (If you dont like spice, skip added chile). Used 1/4 tsp. garlic power instead of garlic clove and cilantro cause I had some.

Okay, so it is a little sweet. And all the reviews are true. But its easy to make, and if done right, a crowd pleaser.

Watergate Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2003
Had no idea this would taste so good. It was great and soooo so EASY to make. It looked a little funny (unless you are used to eating sea green colored food, but it was great. I left out a lot of the marshmellows just because they arent my favorite food and added extra nuts the third or fourth time I made it.

Turkey in a Smoker

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2003
I put the turkey in a big roasting pan and put it on the grill with charcoal and apple chips. I put the top ont he grill and left it for a few hours. IT WAS THE BEST TURKEY I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I made three of these THREE in less than two months. Then I tried it with cornish hens! I came back on here just to leave the review ( and to look up the recipe again). I was a little leary about the coke but it worked.
