Chicken Broth in a Slow Cooker
About this Cook
I was never really taught to cook, though a few of us picked it up from mom. I'm not sure that mom ever really loved to cook like I do, but she had a lot of kids to feed =) I enjoy cooking for others and having them love it!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook soup, even though I refuse to eat most of them. Those I cook for tell me they're delicious! My favorite is making a soup completely from scratch, generally using a chicken or turkey carcass from that evening's meal. I also enjoy canning - tomatoes, jams, etc. Finding end of the day cheap fruits and vegetables at the farmer's market means I can make a big batch of jam or vegetables for the winter =)
My cooking triumphs
I make a mean creme brulee and an impressive german chocolate cake! I can make some great main dishes too, but people usually believe that you had to slave over a great dessert (not true!)
My cooking tragedies
There are too many to list. I can't make gravy to save my life!

Mouse's Macaroni and Cheese
Seemed fine when I pit it in the oven, but after the amount of time in the recipe, it had really dried out. The taste was fine, just dry. I would recommend baking it for less time than indicated.

Roasted Tomatillo and Garlic Salsa
I received two tomatillos in my CSA box this week (just two!) so I set out to find a recipe. I found this one and decided to use most of the other salsa items they gave me; two tomatoes, one jalapeno pepper and one green bell pepper. I also had some garlic. So I pared it down and threw one tomato into the blender with the mix, then diced the other and threw it in at the end. I took another reviewer's advice and added cumin. This is a great salsa and I'm so happy I got to use so much of my CSA produce this week!

Roasted Asparagus and Mushrooms
Prepared the recipe as written. I thought it was only ok, nothing special. Maybe rosemary isn't my herb of choice? I probably won't make it again.
