About this Cook
As a mom, wife, designer, cook, I have found that we are linked by our ever evolving culture. Creating food is my outlet. It not only nourishes our bodies, but it informs us about who we are and where we are in our lives. It always has an undercurrent though, that links us back to where we came from. Without it we cannot exist and so it's a fascinating medium for me to explore on a daily basis. Most of all delicious nourishing foods make us all sit back and sigh. That is the best reward of all...
My favorite things to cook
I am usually game to try anything when opportunity rises. I do gravitate to a lot of Italian food though because most of the time it's quick and easy. But mostly with an Italian husband and a 4 yr old that can't get enough pasta, it's the cuisine of choice. However, I dabble in all things Mediterranean, some Asian, since I'm half Chinese and also a bit of southern cooking, my other half is southern. My goal this year though is clean eating recipes, I've been working on changing my lifestyle to a healthier more active and less processed living. So all our favorites with a makeover. My favorite family cooking traditions
I suppose like many families, the holidays are where the cooking traditions tend to blossom. And it has been that way for me. I come from a blended family, part Chinese and part American and so the tradition of blending dishes from both cultures have always been a part of my cooking style. Now with my own family, a third culture, that of Italian cooking has become a large part of my cooking adventures. It all comes down to the most deliciously diverse holiday table.
My cooking triumphs
I would say a lot of times my cooking triumphs come when I am not really trying too hard to create a masterpiece. It's the everyday dishes that come as a result of just finding what is there in the fridge and creating something that sounds like it would work. You know it's good when there is nothing but silverware clinking together.
My cooking tragedies
I had a most recent tragedy involving turkey meatloaf. Now, this is something that I make often, not every week, but mind you, a dish that takes no recipe, and has been made in a zillion ways depending on what I have available. I usually have pretty good results no matter what I put in the meatloaf, but for some unforeseen reason my last turkey meatloaf came out looking and feeling like a loaf of artisan bread. Go figure, of course, my loving husband said, " it's odd, but oddly, I like it!" That meatloaf is gone, by the way....
