Rhubarb Meringue Dessert

I did not have the success the other reviewers had. Baking the crust and custard for 50 - 60 mins. is just too long. My crust came out dark brown and 4 cups of rhubarb would have been better than 5. It's all rhubarb and not much custard. I lost my recipe from the Milwaukee Sentinel. I found it when they used to have a separate food book in the paper. It was a recipe from Grace Howaneic if anyone has this recipe I would love to get it back.

Scrumptious Strawberry Shortcake

This is a popular way to eat short cake, i.e, biscuit dough. I prefer the sweeter version using either pound cake or hot milk spongecake. Schaum torte, and I don't mean hard meringue shells, is the supreme shortcake base for us. Thanks for your recipe, it affords some variety.

Slow Cooker Chicken Pot Pie Stew

This is a good recipe for comfort food. Condensed soups are most always high in sodium content. To get around this purchase the low or no salt cans. It is also possible to get no salt chicken bouillion. or broth. I use the broth myself. A dash of poultry seasoning also adds flavor to the dish. Happy eating :o)

Butterscotch Haystacks

I like these with melted butterscotch chips, 1 heaping tablespoon of peanut butter, 1 1/2 cups shoestring potatoes and 1 cup peanuts. Not too fond of the chow mein noodles. But everyone has different tastes.

Sausage, Peppers, Onions, and Potato Bake

Took this dish to a party over the weekend. Everyone raved about it. Had many requests for the recipe. Didn't have the white wine but those who tasted it, said didn't need it. I don't usually take a new recipe to a party, but in this case it was a winner.

Rhubarb Berry Jam

As written this is a terrific jam. I have been making it for years and everyone I have shared it with loved it and asked for the recipe. Don't understand why it would be called three berry jam when only adding flavored jello, but to each his own. It has always been called rhubarb/blueberry jam as far back as I know. Enjoy!! No need to can, keeps in the refrig. indefinitely.

Cream Cheese Squares

I made these today to take to a church birthday party. I had to bake it longer than the recipe says and it still has gooey spots in it. Definitely cut down on the butter or leave it off altogether. I will have to purchase another desert tomorrow before the party. Will not use this recipe again.

Pen's Deviled Deviled Eggs

One tip for the viewers. If you boil the eggs for the whole fifteen minutes, each yolk will have an unappetizing green coating. Taking off the heat as soon as the water comes to a boil and letting stand for 15 min. will give you beautiful yellow yolks

Homemade Cream Filled Individual Sponge Cakes

How is it that yellow cake mix is listed as sponge cake?? I made a Betty Crocker sponge cake and used a cream filling consisting of 1/4 C of butter, 1/4 C shortening, 2 C confectioners' sugar, 3 TBSP milk, pinch of salt and 1 tsp vanilla. Try it! It's better than the brand name. Took it to a church bake sale and they sold like hot cakes.

Tomato Asparagus Salad

I followed this recipe exactly as written and used balsamic vinaigrette from this site as suggested by another reviewer. Loved the asparagus and tomatoes but feel there is a better dressing out there somewhere. If I try this again it will be with a different dressing.

Elegant Scalloped Potatoes

Made this for dinner one night. Husband and I both enjoyed it. I made 1/3 recipe as there is just the two of us. I am planning on making this for Easter dinner with pork tenderloins. It will be something different for the family. We didn't feel the bacon added anything to the taste so will probably omit it next time. It does make an attractive casserole.

Sour Cream Pork Chops

My husband and I found these chops to be really tasty and tender. I followed the recipe except used plain yogurt as my spouse does not like sour cream. It was difficult to blend it into the gravy so I ended up making regular gravy, and it was still delicious next time I will add some of the gravy to the flour mixture to thin it down. I added paprika to the seasonings sprinkled on the chops and added the same to the flour for dredging. This will be our favorite pork chop recipe.

Meaty Thick Man Chili

This is a good recipe for those of us who like thick chili. My husband is not fond of big chunks of tomato. I'm confused as to why Andy used tomato paste. No wonder his chili was dry. There's a big difference between paste and sauce.

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Have been making hamburger steaks for over 50 years, but never used egg and bread crumbs or wine. Knew it would taste just like meatloaf. Have varied between onion and mushroom gravy served with boiled Yukon gold potatoes with butter. One of our favorite easy suppers.

Chocolate Banana Bread

Served this at a church brunch. It was very well received. My first taste of chocolate banana bread and my husband and I were not disappointed. Made 2 loaves. They sank a little right in the middle, not sure why. That why the 4 star. This recipe is a keeper.

Fairy Food

I have this same recipe and it calls for only 1 tbsp. baking soda. This always tastes great. If you feel your candy raised too high you can cut across the height. Never try on a damp/rainy day and line pan with non-stick foil
