I started out as a bad cook at a kid. I would get in trouble when I would get into my mother's spices and mix a whole bunch of them when I was pretending to make some fancy concoctions. Over time I tried and tried again to be a better cook. I used to have the biggest trouble with cooking noodles and making chocolate chip cookies. I have since mastered those. When you have trouble making something right, you keep making it until you get it right. I love to cook and bake as neither way of cooking scares me.
My favorite things to cook
There is nothing like grilling a nice piece of steak! I also love cooking shrimp. I make a mean banana bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter are the most fun times to cook for. My strongest area is to cook for Thanksgiving. For Thanksgiving I like to make the turkey with fruits and vegetables inside, stuffing separate, scalloped corn, fancy mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole and cranberry relish. We usually cook green beans for our "green" too.
My cooking triumphs
My turkey tacos are amazing! I make my own tortillas using a recipe on here. I got the taco seasoning recipe off of someone here as well.
My cooking tragedies
Bagels are my biggest problem. The recipe I followed tasted bad and I just couldn't make them stay in a ring shape. I constantly improvise in the kitchen. I have messed up some recipes but I taste and figure out what to do next. I once had a fire in the kitchen while trying to boil water for ramen. I was a college student then and we had a shared kitchen. The stove started on fire because the person before me made fried chicken and didn't clean the grease off the burner. I didn't know there was grease there as it was very hard to tell.
