About this Cook
Retired and taking good care of my husband. Ora et labora
My favorite things to cook
Healthy meals, deserts and snacks that we both like-and that won't make us fat again!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Love to find something new or a variation of an old favorite to surprise & please the family.
My cooking triumphs
Created a pumpkin dessert that was low calorie and really tasty! If I can make a meal that pleases my husband-THAT is a triumph!
My cooking tragedies
In art there are no tragedies, only techniques that did not please. I made that up-truthfully? I cannot BBQ a steak, but then my husband can, so-no more tragedies!

Swope Bread
I have only one(!) 9x5 bread pan so I cut the recipe in half, used low fat buttermilk and cut the sugar to 1/4 cup. It came out wonderfully delicious! My husband wants me to make it instead of buying bread at the store. I suppose I should buy a second bread pan...

Apple Butter Bars
I made this and did not frost or add any fruit as I handed it out to grand babies for a snack. Also I could not find my apple pie spice so just used cinnamon & ginger. Oh, and I always use more vanilla than is called for in the recipe. I can say that it was easy and popular with grandkids and parents, too. I will use my own homemade apple butter and add craisins next time I make it - which will be soon and often!!

Cream of Pumpkin Soup
this was excellent! I made it exactly Except I used butter instead of margarine-and then added a dash of tumeric and a dash of white pepper at the end to give a little more bite. I took it to a progressive dinner and it was the only one that was ALL GONE at the end. Thanks! I'll make this again and again.
