I'm Sarah, I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. I study health at DCCC, transfering to Drexel U next year. I have a son, Jude born April 18, 2010, so not much time to cook these days.
My favorite things to cook
Chicken, any way really. I'm like bubba off forest gump, except it's all about chicken instead of shrimp. grilled chicken, fried chicken, bbq chicken, chicken parm, chicken fried rice, chicken marsala, lemon pepper get the idea lol I also LOVE to cook homemade baked mac and cheese! Everyone says mine is the best they ever had. I'm getting into using the slow cooker.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving! We all chip in and make something. It's all about food. We spend 2-3 day cooking and baking and its just a great time all my sisters and mom together laughing and eating. The smells that come from the kitchen are heavenly!
My cooking triumphs
My nephew is allergic to milk. I always felt bad because we would all sit around and eat cake during parties, and he had his own crappy little cake with no dairy. Usually a soy cake or angel food with fruit. I finally made the perfect cake thanks to a combination of a few recipes, with no dairy. It was a chocolate cake, and it had a delicious mocha frosting that I used vegeatable oil butter. He finally got to taste REAL chocolate lol. and it's so good the whole family shares the cake. no more him eating his crappy cake while we eat the good stuff.
My cooking tragedies
One time I tried to make blackened chicken. The recipe said to put all the seasoning on the chicken, turn the pan on HIGH than sear the chicken. well the heat all the HOT spices created a fume that permeated through the house and gassed everyone out! we had the door and all windows open to air out the place, it was terrible! I had a cough for 3 days!

Applesauce Bars
Made these today and they are delicious!! Mine came out more like a this cake than a bar cookie. But still very yummy. I made mine in a 9x13 pan, and it only took about 12 oven seems to cook things faster for some reason

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili
This chili was to-die-for! It was heaven in a bowl. I did cut down alittle on the spices..added half the cayenne and chili powder. I wind up adding more chili powder later. I figure you can always add spices later, you can't take them away lol my sister gobbled this up! i'm eating some for breakfast now. Also for the beans I used 1 can black beans, 1 can of dark red kidney, and 1 can of light red kidney. The sausage added a really nice flavor! It's well worth breaking out all the seasoning. I measure and mix them together ahead of time so I can just add them all at once.
