Crusty French Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2011
This was not the light french bread I was expecting. It came out dense and heavy. Good for sandwiches, but not what I think of as "french bread."

Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2011
I was disappointed with these. I thought they were a tad dry and bitter from too much cocoa. My kids liked them, but I'm not sure if I they are worth trying again when there are so many good cookie recipes out there.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2011
This was a keeper! Delicious for certain. I didn't change anything except to substitute canned broth for the water and bouillon.

Almond Maple Granola

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2011
This was yummy. The kids loved it. The almonds looked a little sparse, so I doubled them. The raisins as well. It could have been cooked longer, I think, and should have been stirred some time in the middle.

Fast Chicken Soup Base

With my home-made stock, this was a fast, easy base for some really delicious chicken soup.

Authentic, No Shortcuts, Louisiana Red Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2011
This was a little bland to me. No one in the family really liked it. The sausage added nothing to the flavor, and there wasn't enough ham hock. It was very watery, even reduced to 7 cups of water. And 8 hours on low did not cook the beans. I had to put it in a pot on the stove and boil it for about an hour to reduce the liquid and finish off the beans.

Best Tuna Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2011
Blech! The only thing tasty about this was the potato chips. Bland, expect for a weird taste from the combination of mushroom soup, tuna, and peas.

Double Chocolate Mocha Trifle

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2011
This tasted like what you would expect from a recipe where every ingredient was a processed food. I am in no way a food snob, but even I thought this could be better. The Cool-Whip in particular gave the pudding layer a greasy texture. At the very least, substitute real whipped cream. The pudding was thick and stiff rather than thick and creamy. It was edible, extremely rich, and the kids loved it, but it was nothing to rave about.

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2011
My whole family enjoyed this. I used a chuck roast and doubled the recipe. It was very tender and flavorful. I added a 12oz package of noodles at the last 1/2 hour. If you do this, I recommend adding extra liquid, because it ended up quite thick.

Kathy's Delicious Whole Slow Cooker Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
I followed this recipe EXACTLY, and found it to be edible but nothing special. I cooked it on high for four hours, and by that time it was falling off the bone. The texture of the meat was a bit chalky and it wasn't really flavorful.
