This was a delicious filling for my son's first birthday cake. incredibly smooth and creamy, super tasty. however I later tried to make truffles nad couldn't get them to set. Not sure why.

Lemon Cream Cupcakes

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2011
These taste very good but I wanted a light and airy cupcake and this batter was very thick resulting in a dense, heavy cupcake. Like I said the flavor was great and everyone seemed to like them, but I was disapointed--it was not what I was looking for. Will not be making again.

Can't Tell They're Low-fat Brownies

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2011
not a fan. the batter tasted ok but once they were baked I could totally taste the prunes. This may have been my fault as I didn't have baby food on hand so I pureed some apples with about 5 prunes... fresh food is always more flavorful than babyfood (ick). anyway, I will not be making these again. And would recommend to just use applesauce.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2011
I was having a MAJOR sweet tooth and wanted something quick so I whipped up these brownies. soooo easy and delicious! (not at all cakelike like some reviewers said, they were probably over-mixing). I had to use brown sugar and they taste fine. I love the ease of this recipe. Because I am lazy, I melted the butter for the frosting to make mixing it easier. It is very good, but super sweet, I would consider removing or lessening the honey in the future. But wonderful recipe! Perfect for when you are craving something sweet!

Oatmeal Date Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2011
These bars taste great, although they are too sweet! I agree with a reviewer that some cinnamon would be good. The only problem I have with them is that they are crumbly, they aren't coming out in a bar form, but that might be my fault--I had to add extra water to the dates because they were too thick to spread across the crust. So maybe I added too much? I don't know. I would probably make this again, modifying the recipe.

Barbara's Golden Pound Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2011
Very good cake, easy to make, although it was a lot of mixing ;) I did have to sub in about 1/4 tbsp. of orange extract but the flavor still came out lemony. Did not make the icing as we served it with strawberries. It was delicious, everyone raved, but my complaint is that it seemed too sweet to me. Perhaps the glaze would balance that out? Great flavor and texture.

Cream Cheese Frosting II

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
This was easy to make and tasty but had too much of a cream cheese taste for my purposes--I was making the Orange Crunch Cake on this website. So I added the extra cup of confectioner's sugar as suggested and it was perfect. It covered a 3 layer cake.

David's Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
cake was easy to make and turned out great, although I think I overbeat it ;) I used it for the Orange Crunch Cake recipe on this site and it turned out great. Was able to easily make 3 layers out of this recipe. Oh--also I used 4 whole eggs so I wouldn't waste eggs.

Orange Crunch Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
This cake was pretty good, although not what I was looking for. I made it a 3 layer cake-- I did 1 1/2 times the amount of crunch layer and used David's Yellow Cake Recipe for the cake. I froze the layers the day before and frosted the cake frozen. I left the crunch layers facing down and had no problems with this or with the cake layer cracking as other reviewers mentioned. The cake did have a nice "light" taste to it. I used a cream cheese frosting recipe from this site as well and the frosting was good, although the orange peel was kind of chewy. Overall the cake was good but just seemed to be lacking something. I might make it again but as a vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting and maybe a raspberry sauce or something like that. The crunch layer was the best part of the cake. But it was for my birthday and just didn't have that "wow" factor.

Aunt Anne's Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2011
Was very easy to make with ingredients I normally have on hand. As other reviewers mentioned, the topping did melt into the cake (Even though I refrigerated it overnight as one reviewer suggested). Both my husband and I thought it was too sweet. I would probably make this again because it was easy and delicoius, but would definitely use less sugar and topping.

Grandma's Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2011
This was pretty good although it didn't taste how I expected... I basically followed the recipe but added a couple of things so it would taste like the flavor I love from scalloped corn-- 1/2 green pepper, 1/4 red pepper, 1 tsp paprika, 1/2 tsp. dry mustard. I also used a little bit more of the bacon grease than called for. The end result was pretty tasty but I would have added in more corn for sure... still seems like it is missing something but I am not sure what. Oh--and I also added chicken bullion to the water.

Pizza Dough III

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
turned out great! A little thicker than I expected in a large, rectangular pan, but cooked up well. I needed at least 1/2 C more flour than directed. I added some seasonings (parmeasan, garlic salt, italian seasoning) to the crust. Generously oiled the pan and prebaked the crust for about 10 min. at 375 (I always do this) then cooked the pizza with toppings for 12-15 minutes longer, the crust turned out great, browned on the bottom, cooked all the way through. Just a little thicker than I wanted. Also only had normal flour to use, turned out fine

Pumpkin Cookies with Penuche Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
This was delicious!! I made some of the adjustments I read in other reviews... I used butter since I don't cook with shortening... Anyway I used half the amount of butter and substituted the rest of the butter with pumpkin (ended up using one can of pumpkin). Then I also added 1/2 tsp. of cloves and nutmeg (each) and an extra 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon. I cooked it in a 9 x 13 pan and it came out wonderful! More like cake than bars, pretty much the size and consistency of a boxed cake. I also added a tsp. of vanilla to the frosting. It is a sweet frosting but its a wonderful compliment to the cake! sooo good!
