I didn't used to like to cook and once I had 3 small children, meals became generic (picky eaters) and the same few things all the time. As my kids turned into teenagers, they wanted more food and more variety so I research recipes to try new things and I'm having a blast! And those picky eaters have discovered lots of things they actually like!
My favorite things to cook
I really like making things from scratch and I've had a chocolate cake and frosting recipe for years that I have always used for my kids' birthdays. All the character cakes taste much better when made from scratch! I have discovered that that cake is really the only baking I like to do. I much prefer cooking homemade meals - creating and tweaking recipes.
My cooking triumphs
I started making lasagna several years ago with no recipe, it's actually a bit different every time, and friends started requesting that I bring my lasagna to pot lucks and other events. I knew I was doing good with it, but I knew I had really triumphed when my brother, who is very picky and said he only liked lasagna from a specific restaurant, tried mine for the first time recently and now won't get it at that restaurant anymore!!
My cooking tragedies
This has probably happened to everyone - not a total tragedy, but I was trying a complicated chicken recipe I found online. I spent a couple hours putting it together and it cooked all day in the slow cooker. It looked so pretty, but when we tasted it, we ALL thought it was horrible!!
