Oh. My. Goodness. I am new to from-scratch cooking, so these were my first brownies that didn't come from a box or tube. The batter was very thick, so I thought I had done something wrong. At 35 minutes a toothpick came out clean, so again I thought I had done something wrong. They barely spread out or puffed up during their time in the oven. I baked them on parchment paper, so the following morning I lifted the cooled brownies from the pan and easily sliced them with a pizza wheel. There was no shredding, no crumbling, and the tops remained perfect. What I thought was going to be a flop ended up resulting in the most fudgy, perfect, moist, and crispy topped brownies. These were the ones I always wished my Mom made when I was a kid. One taster described them as being 'like Little Debbie brownies, but with flavor'. I made exactly as directed, except I used half brown and half white sugar and I used a bag of Mini Rolo candy in place of the chocolate chips. I already have a request for two more batches tomorrow! Thanks for a fantastic recipe, Brooke!
