About this Cook
My focus is on the basics. I love making a classic dish and being told that I made 'the best version' someone has ever tasted. Homemade food is a lost art, and taking a little bit of extra time to make something is my way of showing people I care about them.
My favorite things to cook
Classic dishes, particularly Southern ones, for my family and friends. I am strictly Gluten Free, so I don't eat what I cook for others.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Grandparents were Romanian immigrants, so I grew up eating the world's best stuffed cabbage rolls and walnut cakes.
My cooking triumphs
I was recently shocked that my first real cheesecake was a success. I read every review I could, followed the tutorial on here about water baths, and amazingly, there was not even a hint of a crack in the surface. If AllRecipes can talk me through that, they can help any novice cook!
My cooking tragedies
Two recipes from cooking blogs were dismal failures: one was for Gluten Free peach cobbler (end result was like wet sand). The other was 'truffle bark', with an end result like that paste we used in preschool. That's how I learned that I need to stick with recipes that are kitchen approved, reviewed, and rated. That's why I rely on AllRecipes and FoodWishes!

Simple Scones
I *hate* to clean my food processor, so I took a chance: I substituted Butter Flavor Crisco for the butter, and mixed everything by hand with a pastry blender. The result? The most beautiful scones I have ever made! My previous attempts at scones focused the attention on the add ins, rather than the cake portion, but I believe these will change all that. I have made four batches so far, all white chocolate cranberry, but I can't wait to try all sorts of varieties. Thanks for a great recipe!

Best Bread Machine Bread
I believe this lived up to its name. This was the first recipe I chose for my new bread machine, and it was perfect. The final product was so soft and had the nice light texture that has previously eluded me in my homemade bread. I have a feeling this is going to become a go-to recipe for us. Thanks!

Carrot Cake III
Ah-MAY-zing! This is the first cake I have successfully made from scratch! I, like many people, read lots of reviews, and I did make a few tiny adjustments (more vanilla, more cinnamon, a hint of nutmeg, and half brown sugar), but I made no major changes to the recipe. I even used the amount of oil called for....and it was perfect. Moist, spicy, flavorful, and the frosting was fabulous! I used the exact amounts called for and whipped the fool out of it in the stand mixer. I have avoided cake making for a long time, because I had never been able to make a good one from scratch....that is, until today. Thank you so much for the recipe and the confidence. :-)
