Fantastic recipe and superb crispness and flavor. I made these in my cookie press and it was the perfect consistency without chilling the dough which makes this not only a delicious cookie but super quick and easy. I followed the directions exactly (except I accidentally used 1/2 tsp instead of 1/4 tsp salt, which apparently didn't matter). If I could give this recipe 10 stars, I would, it is just THAT good.

Wow. This recipe is simply amazing. I can see why it has won blue ribbons. My husband had been requesting a coconut macaroon like his Aunt Orphie used to make and after several trials of different recipes, this is the one. Make them small, about half the size of a ping-pong ball if you want them like Aunt Orphie's ; - ). If you want a traditional macaroon, use this recipe. I followed it EXACTLY and the cookies came out simply perfect. Since you have to mix them up with your hands, don't do as I did and forget to put in the vanilla until after you're up to your elbows with the "dough." Thankfully hubby was there to help me out. Thank you so much for posting this recipe. It's simply the best!

I was disappointed. Too sweet, didn't brown in 300 deg oven, not what I consider a macaroon. After tasting the first batch to come out of the oven, I added another cup of coconut to the rest of the batter, they needed more coconut. I used sweetened coconut as there is no unsweetened coconut available in the store. Apparently the recipe should state "unsweetened flaked coconut" because these were horrendously sweet. So, if using sweetened coconut, cut the sugar WAY back. All-in-all, save yourself some trouble and pass on this recipe. There are better ones out there.
