David's Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2012
Holy . At first I was a little worried because of all the bad reviews, but I am SOOOO glad I went with my gut and tried this recipe! I followed it to the letter, and beat the hell out of the butter/sugar, and after each egg. I don't like my sifter, so I threw it out....instead I put all the dry ingredients in a bowl and wisk them over and over again, to get the air in there. It works like a charm! I got 28 cupcakes from this. I tried the batter before I baked it and it is FANTASTIC! I couldn't wait till the cupcakes were cooled off, I HAD to try one. I don't know what the previous reviewers were talking about when they said it was dry or tasted like cornbread. It was moist, and the most delicious yellow cake I have EVER had! Make sure you beat the out of the butter/sugar/yokes, and only mix in the flour mix and milk until incorporated, starting and ending with flour. It seriously makes all the difference!

Fresh Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2012
I doubled the dressing, used 1/2 of a red onion and used about 4-5 heads of broccoli. I used craisins instead of raisins and sunflower seeds instead of almonds. I added shredded sharp cheddar cheese right before serving. Everyone LOVED it and many asked for the recipe!

Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2012
Oh my GOODNESS these are delicious. I followed the recipe almost exactly. I took a couple other reviewers suggestions and added another 1/4 cup of milk. I also beat the hell out of the butter/sugar combo, then beat the hell out of it again after each egg, and after the flour/baking powder combo, and again after the milk. So, I suggest anyone trying this recipe to add the 1/4 cup milk and seriously BEAT THE HELL out of the mix!! 1 batch made 31 mini cupcakes and 10 normal sized ones. I baked the mini cupcakes for 15 minutes, and the large ones for 20ish minutes. Perfect!

Snickerdoodles I

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2011
Snickerdoodles are my favorite type of cookie, but I had never made them until I found this recipe. These are SIMPLE to make and taste AMAZING!! Even my non snickerdoodle liking husband enjoyed these. BTW, the slice of bread in the bag trick to keep them soft....works like a charm!! LOVE it!

Hot Pepper Jelly

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2011
My rating is based upon the potential, not the original recipe. As written, it is VERY mild. Good, but mild. I had to change the amounts of hot peppers to get it to be hot. I kept the base 5 cups the same. With that being said, once I figured out how much hot peppers I needed to make it as hot as I wanted it, it turned out DELICIOUS! My husband, my brother, and myself are addicted to it! We have been putting it on pork chops, ribs, chicken wings (we are from buffalo...lol), sandwiches, etc. As far as setting, I doubled the amount of pectin and got a hard set. I prefer a more thick sauce set, so the next batch will only have about 4 tbsp of pectin.

This is the best pound cake I have ever had! I took another reviewer's suggestion and added lemon extract. I put in 1 tsp and it was PERFECT! I made cupcakes (2 doz from one batch), filled them with a strawberry puree and topped them with a whip cream frosting. OMG....so good.

Extreme Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2011
I made this with coffee instead of boiling water. OMG this is amazing! Everyone loved it! I got just about 4 dozen cupcakes out of one batch. I stuffed them with a strawberry puree and topped them with a whip cream frosting....DELICIOUS! - UPDATE - I made this again, using the boiling water and this time I made the frosting. The cake was still delicious! I ran out of vanilla extract for the frosting, so I didn't use it. I used the full amount of butter, only around 1 cup of confectioners sugar, 1/2 cup of coco, and a couple tablespoons of milk. This whips up so light and airy! I added the sugar and coco to taste, and only enough milk to make it creamy. I have made this cake/frosting twice now, and each time I got rave reviews! My boss even said he hoped he didn't lose me to a bake off! :) This is my "go-to" chocolate cake. LOVE it!!

Whipped Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2011
Taste is delicious....not too hard to make. The flour mixture HAS to be COOL....or it won't come out right. I only gave it 4 stars because it doesn't last very long. I make some earlier in the day and when I went to frost my cupcakes in the evening, the frosting was lumpy and looked oily. This happened two times to me. I do recommend it IF you are frosting, then eating with in a very few hours.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: May 8, 2011
I only made the sauce, but it was so good I had to post this review! I left out the fennel seeds (hubby doesn't like them), used minced garlic instead of crushed, used 1/2 cup fresh basil instead of the dried, and reduced the salt down to 1 teaspoon. OMG this is DELISH!! I can't wait to make the whole lasagna!

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: May 8, 2011
I used another reviewer's suggestions and subsituted fat free sour cream, sugar free pudding mix, and applesauce instead of oil. SOOO GOOD!!! I couldn't find the right size box of pudding mix, so I used 3 2.1 oz boxes, and it seemed to work just fine. The batter is SUPER thick, which worried me at first. I used the Chocolate Ganache recipe by INGRIDEVOGEL from this site. Perfect! I can't wait to make this again!

Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2011
This frosting is wonderfully light and delicious! Mine was not very stiff, but was perfect for frosting the Sam's Famous Carrot Cake that I made. (also from this site...I highly recommend!) My husband (who doesn't like frosting) LOVED this recipe. Not too sweet, but not too cream cheese-y either! I followed the recipe exactly as written. Thank you for a great frosting recipe! - UPDATE I also used this recipe as a filler for a mock cherry napoleon. I changed it some - used 4 cups whipping cream and almond extract instead of the vanilla....soooo good! It was perfect and not too sweet with the cherry pie filling I made.

Cinnamon-Sugar Popcorn

OMG this is DELICIOUS! It tastes like monkey bread popcorn! I did double the topping and add almost 1/2 cup more popcorn. Then I baked it at 250 for 1 hr, stirring every 15 mins to get it crispy. Thank you thank you for a great recipe!

Heavenly White Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
I have made this cake 2 times now. Once as 2 rounds and once as cupcakes. One batch makes 3 dozen cupcakes, which was exactly what I needed! I do add an additional 1/2 cup milk as previously suggested. It turns out a little crumbly, but sooo good! Perfect with homemade buttercream frosting.....yum!

Classic Chicken Noodle Soup

This recipe is simple, fast, and soooo good! I used the fast chicken base. I accidentally bought a bbq chicken, but the flavor was amazing with the soup! I think the fresh parsley was KEY. Soooo good!

This is AMAZING! I have never made chicken noodle soup from scratch before, and this was perfect. I used it with the Classic Chicken Noodle Soup recipe.
