I'm an older, working Mom. I was married 19 years before having my first child. I am trying to instill a love of cooking and good food in my son. He loves helping me in the kitchen. He's 4 years old and he can crack an egg without breaking the yolk.
My favorite things to cook
Two things that my son enjoys most are the things I enjoy most: Home made pizza night and Salad Party night.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Grilling, watermelon, and home made ice cream on the 4th of July.
My cooking triumphs
There are several, but there was one thing that took me the longest to make and therefore made me proudest: A traditional fruit cake for Christmas one year. I spent 2 months on it because I soaked it in bourbon cheesecloth once a week. It was certainly "potent" to say the least. ;) My brothers enjoyed eating it, although they also said we could use it to fuel the fireplace for the entire winter if we wanted to...
My cooking tragedies
This is an easy one: I came close to making Curry Powder Men instead of Gingerbread Men. Haha! The labels on my Dean and Deluca spice rack have fallen off on a few of the tubes and, well, the curry powder sure did look a lot like ginger. (I tasted the dough before baking, thank goodness.)
