I am currently 18 and have been cooking since I was 8. I would like to go to IUP for culinary arts to become a chef and one day own a resteraunt that is well known in my area for good quality and well prepared food.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook involve steaks and burgers on the grill, potatoes and gravy, and an assortment of home-made stews and soups. believe it or not, one of my favorite ingredients to use in garlic. i try to incorporate it into nearly every dish i make in some way or another.
My cooking triumphs
In the past 2 years of cooking on the grill, i have increased my skills greatly. Just this past summer i decided to try making mushroom swiss burgers on the grill. while the burgers were cooking, i sauteed the mushrooms in a combination of butter, minced garlic, and sweet wine. the end result was a tangy, but buttery mushroom that tasted amazing on the juicy burgers. i added some minced garlic to the burgers which made every bite memorable.
My cooking tragedies
a few years ago i tried to throw together a soup but had completely forgotten to buy the ingredients that i needed. i tried to improvise with close to nothing i could use. in the end i had added far too many spices and herbs and it was too spicy to actually taste good. the mixtures of the ingredients and spices caused the flavor to get old rather quickly and actually was a little hard to eat for some of my friends that dont have strong stomachs such as myself.
