Sauerbraten I
Wow! I've tried making Sauerbraten before with dismal results, but this recipe is tops! I think the key is the brown sugar in the marinade - it kept the vinegar from overpowering. I know gingersnaps are a more common ingredient, but the brown sugar works much better. great with spaetzle & red cabbage!

Quite good. An excellent dish for Harvest Season, when you can get everything fresh. I added some dried basil & red pepper flakes, which worked well. Next time, I'll add some squash, as that was part of the traditional Succotash made originaly by Native Americans. Corn, beans & squash - the "Three Sisters", as they were reffered to. This a great version that can be adapted in many ways.

Minnesota Wild Rice Soup
I absolutely love Wild Rice, and this recipe really makes it shine. I was out of onions, so I used 1 shallot with the white part of some scallions - I also used high quality chicken stock (I'm not vegetarian). So many variations will work with this. In the future, I think I might add some sausage or smoked ham. Fresh corn would also work really well - and a little butter blended with the flour. A simple, delicious all-American recipe - and don't forget some nice crusty bread!
