Rich and Simple French Onion Soup

Reviewed: May 14, 2013
This recipe is SO freaking good. There are a couple of things people should know, though. 1. The sherry is essential for the soup. Do not leave it out. 2. Caramelize the onions for the richest, best flavor. You'll thank me for this. 3. A nice trick is to toast the bread, then cut a garlic clove in half and rub the cut side over the toasted bread before putting the toast in the soup and layering on the cheese. It's a subtle change but it really excellent. 4. Cut down on the butter or else you'll have a ton of grease floating on top after the cheese is melted.

So yummy, I can just eat this for a meal. And I don't really like potato salad.

Beef with Caramelized Shallots

Reviewed: May 13, 2013
I tried adding some fresh mushrooms and broccoli for a complete meal, and was very dissapointed. No one in my large family liked it. I think there is too much wine in the sauce as it seemed to overpower everything else. Also, the Dijon didn't compliment the other flavors. It was just kind of out there.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2010
I have made these brownies for what seems like forever now, and they are wonderful. I have experimented with the batter because there was always a hard crust on top, and the brownie on the inside had fallen. I also wasn't quite pleased with the texture. So, I added 1 t. baking powder, which makes the brownies chewier. I also added about 1/4 c. hershey's syrup to the batter at the end. This seems to keep the crust from forming, and makes the texture even more chewy. I love them with these adjustments, and would rate the recipe 5 stars that way. My kids would eat the entire pan in one sitting, if I'd let them!!

Turkey Florentine

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2009
I was skeptical of this recipe, but tried it purely based on the reviews. It was wonderful!!! My only criticism is that it didn't make enough for my family of 6. I have 4 kids, 3 of which are boys. They are still little, but I guess they eat a lot. I could have easily doubled this. I will look forward to making this next Thanksgiving!

Mulligatawny Soup II

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2009
I absolutely LOVE this soup. I have made it multiple times, for parties, and just for my family at home. It is always a hit! I usually make it with a bay leaf instead of the fresh curry leaves. The one time I had fresh curry leaves, I didn't read the recipe thoroughly, and I chopped them too fine to remove them from the soup. They tasted just fine in there.

Cheese Ring

I don't know what happened, but this wouldn't set up for me. It was more like a very soft spread. The flavor was wonderful, though!

Steak n Ale Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2005
This pie as is is ok. I think if you used beef broth instead of water to give it more flavor it would be better. The gravy needs to be a bit thicker, too. I might also add a dash of garlic and spices to the broth before I make it into gravy.

This was extremely acidic and hurt my stomach so much I couldn't eat anything for a few days. The flavor is good-don't put in all the sugar-just don't eat too much.

This was nice and filling. I didn't put in all the jalapenos so my kids would eat it. It wasn't very spicy, but had nice flavor.

The sauce was very good. I will probably make this again with chicken breasts instead of chicken peices.

The tofu was very hard to work with and kept breaking up on me. The sauce tasted good, but after a serving, me and my family were getting nauseous.

This was good, but rich. I'm not sure we can eat the whole pan. I'll probably make 1/2 pan next time.

This was wonderful! I have never tasted rice as good as this. My kids (3 and 1) didn't eat much, but my husband and I ate almost the whole pot in one sitting.
