About this Cook
Retired high school media specialist with hubby, four children, and six grandchildren. Retired to beautiful Lake of the Ozarks
My favorite things to cook
Love to cook desserts, pasta, seafood, salads, breads, and soups.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mike's fudge at Christmas, Aunt Ethel's ice box cake Christmas Eve, Darcey's pasta salad in the summer. Used to have herb beds, fruit trees, and huge garden so my cooking was fresh
My cooking triumphs
Canned brandied fruit cocktail from my own fruit trees. Al Brown's Lasagna, a tomatoless lasagna recipe from Better Homes & Gardens magazine in the late '70's, I think. All pies made from scratch.
My cooking tragedies
My first runny butterscotch pie with in-laws in attendence. The spicy grits and shrimp recipe I served to friends two weeks ago from allrecipes.com!

World's Best Lasagna
I got this recipe on pinterest and didn't check reviews. This is the worst lasagna I've ever made and I followed it to a t! The tomatoes are overwhelming and I didn't have fennel seed so that was only ingredient I left out. I'm left with a huge batch of this stuff and being Scots, I can't throw it out as it cost too much to make! I'll stick to my Al Brown's lasagna from Better Homes 7 Gardens c 1979. 5 cheeses and no tomato sauce or if I want tomato sauce, I'll stay with American Lasagna found here on allrecipes.

Kelley's Peach Cobbler
I followed the recipe to a T and it was gummy. Sorry, but way too sweet and the dough was just gummy. Cool Whip at least made it palatable, somewhat, but one guest didn't eat any of it at all. If I'd changed it in any way or not followed directions, I wouldn't review it as I think that's unfair, like saying I didn't really make this but it doesn't sound good.

Slow Cooked Corned Beef for Sandwiches
I followed the recipe to the T and it was dry, not very flavorful and I was sorely disappointed because I served it to guests based on star rating.
