First and foremost, I'm a medical student. I'm a type 1 diabetic so I'm always looking for more recipes that wont make my blood sugar spike. But overall, I enjoy cooking. My family and friends tell me that I should be a cook but I only cook for fun.
My favorite things to cook
It would be easier to say what my least favorite things are to cook! I like to try to cook everything. I love to good German Gingerbread; anything with pastas, potatoes, or butternut squash; I like to try to make Chinese food, most of the time failing; and anything with bacon! Pastries are not my strong suit.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother used to make this insanely good meatloaf. I made it into turkeyloaf and she says that that's the way she should have been making it. Also she used to put all the left overs in a soup. Didn't matter what it was, it went in either way.

Sausage Potato Bake
My whole family loved this! I used sweet sausage, red potatoes, 2 cans of vegetable beef soup, and added frozen corn. I was nervous about the potatoes because I checked on it every hour or so and the potatoes weren't getting soft at all (about 3 hours before the soup was ready they started to soften). I turned the slow cooker on high about 2 hours before done. I will be making this again and again.

Bacon Wrapped Smokies
I love these! My boyfriend who is extremely picky loved these! The only thing I did different is I baked them on a broiler pan instead so the bacon fat could drip off and it could cook all the way through. I used a baking sheet once and the brown sugar stuck to the sheet so much that it almost didn't come off. Also, when I used the sheet the bacon didn't crisp enough for my taste. All in all, Ive been using this recipe for about a year now and its obviously a keeper!

German Christmas Gingerbread
I made this for a family Christmas party and it was gone within 20 minutes. I absolutely love this and plan on making it a lot!
