Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: May 6, 2012
This was good! I cut the recipe in half and used it to make a single loaf, cooked in a 350 degree oven for about 60 minutes, until the outside was deep golden and a knife inserted in center came out clean. I left out the sugar/cinnamon mixture because the recipe seemed sweet enough without it. I used reduced fat sour cream and Irish butter. A keeper!

Grandma's Slow Cooker Vegetarian Chili

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
Oh yum! I made this on one of my "clean the fridge out" days. I had a green pepper I was saving for another meal so I added a chopped broccoli crown and purple onion instead. I also added some chopped fresh tomatoes that were starting to get a bit sad-looking in my fridge. I swapped a can of veggie chili (premade) for the baked beans. It already had some vegan protein in it and added great texture. I also added lots of freshly ground black pepper. Not a spicy...more like a very hearty veggie soup. I have mine cooking a bit longer on low heat. Awesome!

Kickin' London Broil with Bleu Cheese Butter

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2008
This was really, really rich and came out (with little work) like something I'd order off of a nice restaurant menu. I enjoyed this a lot, but won't make it frequently, as blue cheese is a special treat here. Like one reviewer said, season and let the meat rest before cooking.

Cucumber and Avocado Sushi

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2007
Yum! I was really in the mood for some rolls today and when considering the drive to Bennihana, I suddenly remembered I had some nori in my pantry. I actually used the recipe for "Perfect Sushi Rice" because I had some issues in the past with the "sushi rice" I'd bought, but then went back to follow this one. These rolls are incredible! I'm going to add smoked salmon next time...these really satisfied my craving!!!

Slow Cooker Macaroni and Cheese I

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
I make this recipe on occasion, only I do things a little differently with the assembly and some of the ingredients. I use 1 box of al dente (cooked) whole-wheat pasta. Add to the crockpot and stir in other ingredients with a few changes. I use 2 cups of mozzarella cheese, and 2 cups of cheddar, 2 sticks of melted butter; and I leave out the milk (use only the evaporated) and eggs. I cook everything on low, stirring every 15 or so minutes until all of the ingredients are mixed, then let it cook on low about 1 1/2 hour longer. It's SO GOOD comfort food and easy to make. I like this more than any oven-baked hard-to-pronounce cheese-based mac dish.

Tom Ka Gai (Coconut Chicken Soup)

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
I don't know how "authentic" this recipe is, but it sure was terrific! It cooked up so fast and has a taste like in a restaurant. I used lite coconut milk. I didn't have fish sauce and couldn't locate my dashi, so I used soy sauce like another cook suggested. Yum!

Grandma's Five Cup Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2008
Yum! My mother used to make this for her "fancy ladies' luncheons". I made it with your recipe for old-times sake and was not disappointed. Best to leave it in the fridge for 24 hours, the marshmallows get soft and puffy. Also, you can make this with low-fat vanilla or orange/creamsicle yogurt instead of the sour cream. Delicious!

Vegan Brownies

Reviewed: May 9, 2007
The first time I made these they came out pretty bad. I think I overcooked them, plus I was living in high altitude. Having recently made some changes to my diet, I tried these again as a treat and they were SCRUMPTIOUS! First off, ditch the white sugar as it's bleached with animal bones and definitely not vegan-friendly. Try raw sugar instead (you can buy this at any grocery store with the sugar). Also, Mandy suggested using 1 1/2 cups of soy milk (or rice milk) with 1/2 cup of oil. This is perfect. I used some light vanilla soy milk and it mixed up beatiful. I baked for about 1/2 hour, cooled and cut. Yummy, cake-like brownies!

REALLY GOOD recipe. I was able to make it in just a few minutes! Added more dashi for a bit of a fishy-er taste. Love it!

Overnight Chinese Daikon Radish Pickles

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
I made with cider vinegar because I didn't have any rice vinegar handy. They came out a bit more bitter than I would have expected, but I still loved them! I will make these again! They were great and easy for a bagged lunch! Thanks!

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies I

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2006
made a double batch for my boss' birthday. they came out excellent! Very easy to make. I had no trouble with the cookie being flat and I don't own an electric mixer and did it by hand. I soaked the raisins in warm water first. Very good cookie! Highly recommended!

Delicious Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2003
Delicious! I substituted 1/2 c butter so I wouldn't have to measure the shortening, then I went ahead and added extra peanut butter. Check these after about 7 minutes to see if they're done. Easy to make and super delicious! Thanks for sharing your great recipe!!! :)

Amish Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2001
i tend to overcook cookies so I never seem to get a nice, soft cookie when I bake. I tried this recipe and was VERY pleased with it. They baked up just right and have a nice, light taste. I think I may try colored icing on them next time.

Jean's Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2008
I used ADZELL'S advice and cooked 2 small cornish game hens in my slow cooker. I covered them with water and added about 2 teaspoons of the powdered ginger with rosemary, garlic powder, basil, oregano, and about a handful of dried parsley (I always have a large container of this in my cupboard). I diluted the ginger with some warm water so it wouldn't clump. I cooked the hens for several hours, removed them about deboned them. Then I simmered the veggies with lots of parsley and added to the deboned chicken and broth in the slow cooker. I added some boullion cubes and about 1/4 cup minced onion and some more oregano and basil. I'm going to simmer this overnight and add the noodles in the morning. It's really delicious so far and my kitchen smells great! Just be warned if you go the whole chicken/make your own chicken stock way it's really greasy when you debone!

Zesty Tuna Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2007
really good. I agree that it could use a little more mayo if you choose, but it was just fine without it. It's not zesty, just a slightly spunkier version of regular tuna. This is a good standard tuna salad recipe.

Dan's Favorite Chicken Sandwich

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2007
Yum yum yum! I cut recipe to make one sandwich. I made this as a melt on dark rye bread. I used my George Foreman grill to cook the chicken and cleaned it off to grill the sandwich. Was really good and filling too. Tasted like a sandwich you'd buy for $8 in a sit-down restaurant!
