About this Cook
I didn't get comfortable cooking until I was married and wondering what I was going to do with the meats I was taking home from the dear friend gave me a cookbook for a wedding gift and said "if you can read you can cook!" and the rest is history...!
My favorite things to cook
I am the main dish cook whenever we get together with my husband's large family. Spaghetti and sides, mexican salad, tenderloin roast, fried chicken with milk gravy..I just love to cook for people who wouldn't ever make these things for themselves.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother never used spices or condiments of any kind. Her meals were very good, but after years of eating pretty much the same things I was thrilled to start my own traditions after I married. Our daughter also loves to cook and bake and while I still follow a recipe to the letter, she adlibs with everything she makes. My husband makes the turkey and stuffing several times a year.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I ever made a tenderloin that I cut into steaks myself, made the pate to go on top of the steak and wrapped it in puff pastry. I was nervous, but I made it for a special family celebration and it was wonderful.
My cooking tragedies
Very few actually since I follow instructions. Early one I tried to make wheat croissants..twice..and can still vividly see me putting it all in the garbage can..twice. I still don't feel comfortable with using yeast!

Grilled Bacon Jalapeno Wraps
I didn't have much of any ingredient, but they sounded so good I had to try them. After reading the reviews, I parboiled the 3 jalepenos for 4 minutes and fried the bacon in a pan until it was tender crisp. I filled with cream cheese with chives and froze the pepper and cheese for 15 minutes. I wrapped in bacon and oven heated at 400 for 10 minutes. In my opinion...perfect!

Grandpa Crotts BBQ Sauce
I typed in quick and easy BBQ sauce to make pulled pork sandwiches with leftover pork loin. I chose this recipe because my husband much prefers sour to sweet. I added 1/4 cup vinegar and changed nothing else. We couldn't wait to eat as the aroma while simmering was fabulous! So easy and all ingredients on hand. I will never buy store bought sauce again. Thanks Grandpa Crotts!
