My First Kill...

So tonight I did a first, I ended the life of a living thing - I guess if I want to be a "Chef" than this is something I need to be comfortable with from time to time - yes I eat meat, yes, I've gone deep sea fishing but someone else always took care of the killing - you may laugh, but I sauteed my first live clams and even after watching them open and close, purging the sand, I was OK with it - they ended up in a meal that was awesome - a version of Alle vongole Corte that will keep me bringing this exact recipe to the table again and again...  Of course photos are on their way and I will post the recipe - this was very much one I will take ownership of, ideas came from everywhere, but the end result was mine - again this is a fresh dish, zero processed foods...  It is also week 7's blog :) - stay tuned, I have to go do some dishes :)

Happy Cooking!

~Jeff

Well, I must be a professional murderer then. I have fished, killed, gutted, etc...and I've also steamed clams, oysters, mussels, crabs, lobster.....all from the live state and there is nothing better than fresh, really fresh seafood.

I just say a prayer each time I make a fresh kill and thank the clam, mussel, lobster, rabbit, etc for its sacrifice. I see how vegetarians and vegans seem to live healthy and active lifestyles, and wonder if we are going to end up there as a species. I'm betting that if cavemen knew that growing beans was as healthy as red meat they would have been farmers instead of hunter gatherers. Until meat is banned, I'm going to enjoy the hunt at the local fish market and local farms and make sure that my food did not die in vain. I look forward to your recipe.

Looks Delish! I love clams. And, yes. It's a process working through actually having killed the thing you're cooking to eat. But, now you know you could survive in the "wild" if you had to. hehehe. Good blog Jeff.

About Me
I LOVE to cook, while now I work in a different arena I have worked for Marriott Food Service in the past for a few years, from a 3 star resort to a college campus I know individual and mass production - now I cook for a family of 4 + a guest or two from time to time - I've taken on a cullinary challenge - http://52gourmetdishes.blogspot.com and hopefully when the economy goes good again this challenge will turn out a menu... Here's to hoping!!!
My favorite things to cook
previously, I grilled everything on my BBQ - lately I've been stuck on a seafood kick - I'm actually trying to migrate my family to a more healthy dinner experience by trying new and exciting things...
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom and her sauce reductions, every food made a sauce and every sauce had a food!!!
My cooking triumphs
Currently, seared seafood items...
My cooking tragedies
Currently, eggs...
