My mother knew she was not a good cook so she bought me a cookbook when I was 15 and set me loose in the kitchen. In short order, I developed a sense of which flavor combinations worked and which did not. Growing up without a lot of money also helped me figure out how to make inexpensive yet tasty food. Eventually I began to earn enough money to learn to cook tenderloin roast and lobster (instead of just hamburger and tuna), and now one of my passions is recreating in my own kitchen the tasty restaurant meals I have enjoyed.
My favorite things to cook
These days I'm enjoying learning vegetarian recipes because I started doing Meatless Mondays.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family cooks American comfort food which is probably why most of us are fat with high cholesterol.
My cooking triumphs
The middle eastern dishes I have learned to make like maqlouba and tashrib.
My cooking tragedies
After 40 years in the kitchen, I still can't make a pretty omelet. :-(
