About this Cook
I'm a busy girl, work full time in sales and marketing, and learning to be a 'homemaker' in my downtime! I take after my mum, love gardening, cooking (not much of a baker), and doing things the old fashioned way. My fiance (Dave) and I have 2 dogs and a cat. He's a keen hunter so the freezer is always full of interesting meat! We're getting married in March 2011.
My favorite things to cook
Smoked fish and chorizo risotto. Roast chicken with all the trimmings. Spag Bol. Nachoes. Garlic and Ginger Salmon Udon. Rack of Lamb with redwine jus. Steak with blue cheese. Chicken (or Prawn & Mussel) Green Curry. Indian Curries. Venison strogonoff. Baked Quail. Rabbit pie.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mum owned her own delicatessan so I'm learning to make pickles, jams, chutneys etc. Mum never used to use anything premade which inspires me to do the same. Summer is probably what comes to mind most when I think of family cooking traditions - BBQ's, Christmas Day (forever peeling potatoes and popping peas!)
My cooking triumphs
Every night I cook dinner is a triumph! Trying new things and succeeding is extremely satisfying. When I give Dave his plate he always says (Yes, every night) "wow babe, you'd pay $35 for that in a restaurant!" The ultimate complement.
My cooking tragedies
I used far too much wine in a risotto once, totally ruined the dish. I set fire to a pan in our brand new kitchen about 3 days after we'd moved into our new house! I really struggle to bake, I refuse to stick to the recipe so my muffins always come out like small windowless buildings!
