Creamy Turnip With Paprika Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2010
A great way to use turnips. The carmalizing process is very important for the overall taste. My whole family, including, my infant son, enjoyed this soup.

Creamy Beet With Dill Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2010
Nice soup...a dash of red wine adds a good flavour. I prefer using beef broth instead of chicken. I pureed half of the soup and then left the other half chunky and added some carrot chunks. The chunkier texture makes the soup heartier if you are serving it as a meal. Goes well with a rustic style bread.

Chocolate Zucchini Cake III

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2010
Very yummy, rich, moist cake (almost 'brownie-ish'). I used this recipe to make cupcakes and everyone loved them. I used a brown sugar/caramel frosting which was a great choice. My only complaint is that they are a tad too oily...only use one cup of oil to fix the problem. Thanks for the ticket to 'YummyVille'.

Peanut Butter Playdough

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2010
Really, really, really sweet. The consistancy was okay...but I was a little concerned about the huge amount of sugar. I can think of better playdough recipes (less sticky and more colourful) and healthier snacks. It was okay and I think that older kids would have fun helping mix the ingredients.

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2010
I assumed that this bread would probably taste bland because it is so simple to make...but I was plesantly surprised. The texture is light and fluffy and the crust is rich and golden. Make sure you use yeast made for the bread machine or it doesn't rise. A wonderful recipe that I will use again and again=:)

Cajun Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2010
If you are looking for a true 'cajun' soup, then you might be disappointed. If you are looking for a delicious and hearty Italian soup then you will be thrilled. I made my soup extra thick by adding extra potatoes, parmesan cheese, and sausage and turned it into a thick stew served with bread. My family loves this recipe.

Thumbprint Cookies I

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2010
My whole family loves a good thumb-print cookie and I have searched high and low for the perfect recipe...I found it here. The only problem is that now this is the only type of cookie anyone ever wants me to make. I have a whole recipe book full of other good cookies that is collecting dust now...oh well, this is a truly perfect recipe. I am going to experiement with various jam flavors and see if I can find a substitue as tasty as the regular jam (I'm thinking cranberry jelly might be good). Thanks a lot for giving making me a baking-hero to my family=:)

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2010
Wonderful!!! The secret is that this recipe uses nearly double the usual amount of banana which makes it so yummy. Usually my family hates banana bread (I have tried several recipes over the years) but this one seems to have renewed their faith. I liked how moist the bread was but still baked with a nice crunchy crust on the outside. Really yummy=:)

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2010
A nice basic recipe. I added a bit extra cheese and I like to pair all that cheese with nutmeg, black pepper, and a hint of cayenne pepper. I also microwaved my potatoes in advance and sauteed my onion to reduce the cooking time. Works well in a crockpot as well. Thanks for this ticket to Yummy-Ville=:)

Mom's Coleslaw

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2010
A nice basic recipe. I jazzed mine up with the addition of chopped apples and real bacon bits (I got the idea from The Old Spagetti Factory restaurant). Really nice and simple to make and flavorful and tangy to eat. Thanks=:)

Morning Glory Muffins I

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2010
I made a huge batch of these for the staff at my son's school and they all loved them. I used 1 cup of unsweetened apple sauce instead of the 1/2 cup apple butter and the 1/2 cup of oil. I also added a few spoon fulls of flax seeds and wheat bran. They were very moist and tasty...a great recipe=:)

Maine Lobster Lasagna

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2010
This is by far the best seafood style lasagna that I have found and trust me, I have looked everywhere. I love the idea of using jars of Alfredo sauce. I sometimes change it up and use a Rose Sauce or a Vodka Sauce. I love the spinach and the garlic is the perfect seasoning. I add crab meat and prawns to mine as well and my family calls it "Moms Perfect Seafood Lasagna". Thank you for the wonderful recipe=:)

Rosemary Cheddar Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
I liked this bread, but I only gave it four stars because of the changes I made to improve it. These are the changes that I made: 1) Use two cups whole wheat flour and one cup white 2) Make dough in machine, but do one final rise out of machine and bake in oven. 3) Skip the cheese (it adds nothing except lots of extra calories and fat) 4) A little extra rosemary and a pinch of oregano. A good basic recipe, but changes required.

Fish Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
Really good soup (the Old Bay seasoning is wonderful), but I did make a few changes: 1) extra Old Bay seasoning and pepper 2) use less flour and thicken with instant potatoes 3) skip the mushrooms and add roasted corn instead (sautee it in a pan with EVOO, onion, and celery) Thanks for a super yummy recipe...this will be a family favorite=:)

Easy Masoor Daal

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
I don't know a huge amount about this style of cooking...but the idea of a pile of seasoned lentils seemed unappealing to me. I added a can of diced tomatoes to make a nice sauce and that made it yummy. I'm not certain if that is a 'wrong' choice for this style of food (like puting kethcup on sushi), but the diced tomatoes certainly made my family eat this up. We are vegetarian so I am always happy to find a tasty, simple recipe. I sauteed real onion and just used a premixed blend of 'Indian Masala' (Club House brand). A nice healthy meal, especially with warm Naan and rice. I would give my version (added diced tomatoes and real onion) five stars.

Alissa's Vegetarian Lentil Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2011
This is a nice vegetarian option. I made a few small changes: 1) I added ketchup on top near the end of the baking 2) I used a different type of lentil. 3) I baked mine in small muffin tins instead of a loaf pan. It is different than the 'meat' version which my kids found weird, but my husband and I prefered. Serving this with a side of mashed potatoes and creamed corn is extra yummy. Thanks for this good recipe!

Lemon Square Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2011
These are fantastic! My husband made them exactly as the recipe is written (no 'tweaks' at all) and they are wonderful. A nice buttery crust and a lovely chewy filling. The only the thing that I plan to change is the title to include my name so I can steal the glory...thank you so much for sharing this generous slice of heaven with me and making me a hero to my family and friends=:)

Vegetarian Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2011
This is a great recipe. It really depends on which BBQ sauce you use...I mixed mine a bit with ketchup so my kids won't complain about it being too spicy. Extra yummy with creamed corn and mashed potatoes...a nice comfort meal on a cold night..

Unbelievable Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
These are a very yummy and easy to make. I didn't follow the instructions at all...I just threw it all together in a bowl and kneaded it once in a while. The buns had lots of good flavor, but they were fairly heavy. They make tasty sandwich buns and my family gobbled them up and asked for more...I just wish they had been a little fluffier (maybe if I had followed the instructions they would have been...but that seemed like too much work)=:)

Cream of Mushroom Soup II

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
Yummy! The pepper, thyme, and sherry give this soup a lot of great flavor. I pureed half of my mushrooms to create a creamier texture. I also used skim milk instead of heavier milk and it still had a nice silky texture. Not adding the salt to the mushrooms until after they are sauteed was a great tip from a previous poster. Thanks for a wonderful vegetarian recipe that my family enjoyed=:) I will make this again.
