I take pride in describing myself as a "Betty Crocker meets Martha Stewart" wife and mother. Cooking and baking is my passion, and watching my loved ones enjoy the fruits of my labor makes it all the more wonderful.
My favorite things to cook
Everything! (But I usually leave the grilling to my husband)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Dump stew. Definitely dump stew. My mother would "clean out" the fridge at the end of the week, throw everything into the slow cooker, and somehow make it a delicious meal. It was always a nice Sunday dinner, and each week was different. Running my household, I forgot all about dump stew, and was excited when my husband reintroduced it to me. He had grown up with it, too! My mother is from Texas, so I grew up with a lot of Southern cooking. As much as I enjoy west coast cuisine, I still find myself craving mom's meals.
My cooking triumphs
I managed to replicate Sandra Lee's Pumpkin Spice Bundt Cake with Orange Liquor Glaze with perfection. It tasted better than it looked in the picture! I also, this past Thanksgiving, volunteered myself to be responsible for Thanksgiving dinner for my in-laws. As nervous as I was, I managed to pull off 7 different dishes at exactly the minute we were planning to leave for an hour drive. Everything stayed nice and warm on the trip, and tasted great. I was very proud of myself!
My cooking tragedies
I'm sure I have some similar tragedies as other people... salt instead of sugar, forgot the baking powder, forgot about the cookies!... etc. I've never caught anything on fire... yet... and I don't recall any real disasters. But each mistake makes us pay closer attention the next time around!
