About this Cook
I'm more of a baker than a cook. I love the process of creating something delicious and beautiful - you get tangible results and can share it with others. Great food brings people together, and I love participating in that process.
My favorite things to cook
Cakes Cookies Breakfast/brunch goodies
My favorite family cooking traditions
My sister and I love to tackle what our family calls "40-Hour Cakes" (ridiculously complex, time-consuming cakes). We're always trying to raise the bar, so of course we've had several "caketastrophes" along the way.
My cooking triumphs
Making wedding cakes. Super stressful, but also very rewarding.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to name.

Doberge Cake
Of the more complex layer cakes I've tried, this was the most simple, both in terms of ingredients and prep. The most challenging elements were: a) not burning the custard (it takes a looong time to thicken, so be patient) and b) not making a huge mess with the ganache when pouring it over the frosted cake. Taste-wise, it's great (and intensely sweet!), though a bit chocolate-heavy. Next time, I will try vanilla buttercream frosting instead of chocolate. It might be a nice contrast with the ganache.

OREO Turkey
A fun, light treat that disappeared quickly around the office (and made a great conversation piece). The backs can be a bit top-heavy due to the candy corn, so be sure to have plenty of melted chocolate to attach the "tail" to the bottom of the cookie.

Banana Banana Bread
I followed the directions but still found it dry and a bit rubbery. Would not make again.
