Grandma's Egg Custard Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2014
I followed the instructions with the slight exception of not scalding the milk. I mixed everything and poured it into my crust. It needed a full ten minutes more cooking time in my oven to set up but it did and it did it perfectly. A tad sweet for my taste but that's just me. Yummy, non watery or eggy tasting pie perfection!

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies I

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2014
These were so good I immediately threw away all of my other oatmeal raisin cookie recipes. Yes, it's that good. After reading the reviews I made the following adjustments: I soaked the raisins in hot water while I made the dough, I added 1/4 cup of flour, and 1/4 tsp baking powder, I left them on the cookie sheet for a couple of minutes before removing them to cooling racks. Cookie nirvana achieved. Perfect seasoning, lightly chewy, awesome recipe!

Juicy Roasted Chicken

very juicy but too much onion flavor for us. next time I'll use the same amount of butter but maybe just season with salt, pepper, rosemary, and some garlic powder.

Tropical Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2011
Very good recipe . I made a few changes. I thought I had an 8 ounce can of crushed pineapple but I didn't so I used a 20 ounce can of pineapple chunks. I placed them on top of the cake batter before topping with coconut mixture. For the batter I used 1/4 cup oil and 1/4 cup reserved pineapple juice to cut down on the fat. It added a lot of flavor! Yum!I also put a piece of foil lightly over the top throughout baking and it did not burn at all. I added a little vanilla glaze to the top after it came out of the oven. Tropical perfection.

Donut Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2011
Good recipe. The only thing I'd change is the nutmeg. I used 1/2 tsp as suggested by reviewers. I will use even less next time. I made 1/2 cinn sugar and 1/2 glazed. I didn't dip them in butter either. I will definitely make again. This time with less nutmeg, lol.

Mall Pretzels

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2011
Easy recipe, I liked them. Kids ate 6 of them in 15 minutes so they must have loved them. I followed the recipe exact. The only thing I did was to blot them on a paper towel before putting them on the parchment as another reviewer suggested. Try these, they are easier than you think!

English Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2011
Easier than I ever imagined! After reading the reviews I used bread flour instead of all purpose flour and butter flavored crisco instead of shortening. I opted to make the dough in the bread machine on the dough cycle. Then I formed a log without messing with the dough too much. I cut it into 9 almost equal pieces (next time I'll do 12 because they were really big) I used my Tupperware hamburger press form (the circle only) and my fingers to press the dough into perfect circles. I let them rise on the parchment lined cookie sheet I was going to bake them on for an hour in the oven with the oven light on. I took the cookie sheet out, preheated the oven to 375 degrees. Baked 8 minutes on one side, flipped them, 8 minutes on the other side. They are lite, airy and wonderful. Will make again!

Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2011
Nice pie. After reading the reviews I made it with 5Tbs of cornstarch and baked it at 400 degrees instead of 375. Came out perfect with my frozen berries from the summer. I even uploaded a picture of the pie , it was so nice.

Sloppy Joe Sandwiches

How can anything this simple taste so good? I don't know. I doubled the recipe and around here that made 6 sandwiches. Next time I will make this in the crock pot to simmer all day. You really should try this one. This one's a keeper!

I liked it. Next time more garlic, less paprika. I doubled the sauce recipe but it made too much. I froze 1/2 to make another time. Will make again.

Quinoa Pilaf

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2008
The only thing I changed was all of the lemon flavors. I added no lemon anything. Even DH & DS liked this one! Ha Ha they ate something healthy and enjoyed it...shhh don't tell them, lol. After posting I remembered that I had some leftover and the next day I stuffed the Quinoa Pilaf into blanched , green bell peppers, topped with tomato paste and baked like stuffed peppers. That was even better than the pilaf alone...and....healthy!

These came out very nice. I was out of buns and didn't feel like going to the store. I made these and topped with sloppy Joe filling. Great , hearty rolls.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2008
My new favorite oatmeal cookie recipe! They are soft and have nice flavor. I added half the amount of sugar (as I do in all baking), added half whole wheat flour, and I put in 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips and 1/2 cup raisins instead of all raisins. With my small cookie scoop I made 110 little, two bite cookies. Four days later and they are still soft.

Pizza Crust for the Bread Machine II

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2008
I made this recipe because I was out of regular flour and I'm glad I did!!! I doubled the recipe and used it to make one large 15" x 20" pizza. I pre baked the crust for 8 minutes at 475 degrees as another reviewer recommended, then added my toppings and finished baking.WOW!!! It really tasted like a sicilian pizza from a pizzeria. It was even better cold the next morning! Yum!

Boston Baked Beans

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2008
I followed the recipe exactly except for the bacon. I added no bacon and it was very good the first night. I do not think it froze well as the leftovers were not very good, but hey, if you can use up the recipe at one meal it is great!

Neiman Marcus Cake II

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2008
The first time I made this recipe I followed the suggestions of other reviewers and used 2 cups of powdered sugar. Too sweet for me. So the second time I used 1 cup. Perfect. I also added 1 tsp of almond extract to the cream cheese and I put about a half cup of seedless raspberry jam into a sandwich bag. I cut the corner of the bag, piped the jam on top, swirled with a knife along the top to make it pretty. That was fantastic!!!!

Best Bruschetta Ever

Wow!!! Fantastic! I added 1 tbs balsamic vinegar and it was superb. I made it to use up the bounty of tomatoes from our garden. My son (12) asked for it as an after school snack and ate it all! Great recipe, thanks!

Super Good, Super Healthy, Super Cheap! What more could you ask? My secret ingredient? I add one to two tablespoons of brown sugar OR maple syrup to the pot. Everyone raves and can't figure out what's different! lol, just don't add too much, leave it as a background flavor.
