Fantastic Simple Recipe! So, I switched it up entirely! Sorry, could not resist the temptation to try a variation - I had some frozen fruit puree that I thawed and mixed in with the apples (used 1/2 fruit puree consisting of: 2 ripe plums, peeled and cored; 3 ripe pears, peeled and cored; 3 granny smith apples, peeled and cored). Because of the sweet fruit puree, I halved the white sugar. Naturally, I was out of butter, so I used extra virgin olive oil - albeit a bit fearful of this, and took the advice of using less water. No problems! In fact, all changes turned this desert into a gourmet crumble. Yum - thanks for the inspiration!
