Easy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2012
These are more like cookies than granola bars - very sweet. They taste very good though. I used chopped walnuts instead of almonds and skipped the cranberries. I would maybe try these with dessicated (unsweetened) coconut flakes rather than the sweetened kind, to cut the sweetness a little.

Zucchini Brownies

Reviewed: May 20, 2012
I thought these were just okay. I didn't make the frosting so this is just a review on the brownie itself. The bottom half of the brownie is nice and fudgey, but the tops are too crunchy from the sugar. The brownies have an off flavor that I can't exactly place. I have made zucchini desserts before that were much better. I don't plan on making these again.

Belle's Hamburger Buns

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2011
Great after making this a few times and tweaking it a bit. To streamline the process, in step #1 I do not add the water to the saucepan and I only heat it until the butter melts - boiling it is unnecessary. Then I add the water. Otherwise you are sitting around wasting time waiting for the mixture to become lukewarm. I probably had to add another 1/2-1 cup of flour as I kneaded the dough (it is humid where I live, so my flour was not quite as dry as it usually is). After shaping the buns, I let them sit about 35-40 minutes until they had risen some. 20 minutes is not quite long enough. Skipped the egg wash and didn't feel like the buns needed it.

Bar-B-Que Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2011
Excellent and easy. I add a little more vinegar, but otherwise follow the recipe exactly.

Way Easy Pizza Sauce/Bread Stick Dip

Reviewed: May 1, 2011
Quick, easy, and tasty. I doubled the oregano, added about 1/4 tsp of dried basil, skipped the garlic salt & parsley since I don't have any, and added a dash of salt. I used it as a dipping sauce for calzones and it was great. I simmered it on the stovetop a little while so that the flavors could meld.

Pie Crust III

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2011
Flaky, but lacks flavor. It also fell apart easily after rolling when I was trying to put it in the pan.

French Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2011
Excellent French dressing - my husband says it's his favorite out of the homemade dressings I've made. I cut back on the sugar a bit which worked well. I had initially left out the onion out of laziness, but the dressing was way too sweet and was missing something - then I added onion and it was perfect. Don't skip it!

Buttermilk Honey Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2007
This bread is awesome! My husband says it's the best bread I've made so far. It has a nice taste, and is slightly moist but still holds up to being sliced. I will make this again and again. I did the whole thing in the bread machine.

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2005
A good, easy salad made with ingredients that I usually have on hand. 1/2 cup sugar makes it a little too sweet - I had to add more white wine vinegar to give it a little more depth. I would use maybe a 1/4 cup or 1/3 cup the next time.

Eileen's Spicy Gingerbread Men

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2005
These were great - I tripled the recipe for a party and people loved them. I baked them for 10 minutes and they were a little firm but not crispy.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2005
The taste is good, but the bread overall is too oily, and about half an hour after eating it I feel nauseated (and not just once!). I've found another recipe that I like much better.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2004
These were great - pretty easy to make & among the better tasting sugar cookies that I've tried (firm enough to decorate, but they are nice and soft when you eat them). I baked them for closer to 10 minutes and that was just fine.

Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2004
This popcorn was awesome! Lots of raves about it. I only gave it a four because it was so time-intensive. Would definitely make it again for special occasions.

Jo's Rosemary Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2004
This was pretty good, but not fabulous. I would use less olive oil or better quality than what I used (the olive oil taste was too strong).

Strawberry Spinach Salad I

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2004
I had many people ask me for the recipe when I made this for a party recently. I used balsalmic vinegar and cut the sugar down to 3/8 of a cup. I doubled the spinach & strawberries and kept the dressing the same, and it was still too much dressing. I would definitely make this again.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2004
YUM! These were absolutely delicious. I don't have a bread machine or a stand mixer, so I kneaded this by hand and it was just fine. I only let the dough rise for 1/2 hour, and then another 1/2 hour after I placed the rolls in the baking pan, and they turned out great. I had plenty of the brown sugar/cinnamon mixture left over so I would make 1/2 or 3/4 as much next time. They are amazing right out of the oven & still very good after reheating.

Indonesian Satay

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2004
The chicken marinade is great, but the sauce was a little too peanut-buttery for me (I guess I was expecting the kind of peanut sauce from Thai restaurants that I love so much). I would make this again if I could find a sweeter, lighter sauce to dip with instead. I cooked these on the indoor grill for 6 minutes and they turned out well.

Chicken Savoy

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2004
This was good, but not as fabulous as I expected it to be. I used canned chicken broth, which may have something to do with it, but making homemade chicken stock is a little more work than I am willing to do! I would make this again but would put the balsalmic vinegar in before cooking, not after, and marinate for at least a couple hours before baking. I would definitely shorten the time or lower the temp too - I baked it at 450 degrees for 45 min, and it was slightly dry.

Grilled Teriyaki Tuna

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2004
I thought this was good, not terribly exciting - my husband liked it though (he is a huge teriyaki fan). DO NOT OVERCOOK! It makes a huge difference. I would be willing to try this again and try cooking it for a shorter time.

Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2004
Yummy & so easy to make. Not that great the next day though - by then the sauce is barely noticable. Will make again.
