About this Cook
When people ask me what my hobby is, I say COOKING!!! I love to cook just about anything, and almost all my free time is devoted to experimenting with new cuisines, flavors, and techniques. The rest of my life is devoted to my awesome career as a teacher, my husband, my family and friends, and of course my doggie, Izzy! And don't forget the wine tasting...Sonoma is just a short drive away ;-)
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook things that are complicated or stretch my "culinary expertise." I also like to make simple meals more extravagant and pretty. Lately, I have been trying to make my meals more healthy, and add some whole grains to the mix (flaxseed and whole grain bread...yummie!)
My favorite family cooking traditions
In my house....Friday night is usually junk food night. I try really had to fix healthy meals during the week, but Friday is usually cheesesteaks, pizza, chili fries, garlic fries...or anything in the deep fryer! I also love the holiday traditions of cooking together all day...but my mom is on a no cooking kick after sending her fourth kid to college...go figure!
My cooking triumphs
Since my honeymoon (Summer'08), I have been inspired to replicate fancy 5 to 9 course meals. Boy has this been a big hit with my friends! All of my raw dishes have gotten rave reviews...don't worry, I have a sushi grade market down the street (it pays to live near Japan Town). Infused oils are also pretty fav. is vanilla infused extra virgin olive oil with lemon granita on a butterlettuce and mahimahi salad.
My cooking tragedies
BURNT BREAD!!!! I get really distracted with other parts of a meal, and I just can't seem to remember that the bread is toasting in the oven...I'm sure my neighbors love hearing the fire alarm go off at least oncea week...sorry neighbors!!!

Caesar Salad Supreme
Soooooo yummie. I used more garlic to make it spicier and both ways are awsome. I also used less mayo and thinned it out with some olive oil so it coats the salad better. Everyone who tries this asks for's perfect :) Try it over pizza crust with shaved parmesean cheese on top for a pretty adn delicious appitizer!

Aunt Teen's Creamy Chocolate Fudge
TERRIBLE!!! Once I put the choc chips in, it turned into a crumbly mess that looked and almost tasted like dirt. I called my mom (the candy expert) becuase I had made fudge with her so many times, and after going over the recipe, she told me that it was becuase you arn't supposed to heat marshmellow cream. It carmelizes the sugar too quickly. So I used her recipe the second time and it turned out perfectly. I seriously can't believe that this recipe has such rave reviews with such a horrible mistake written into it like that!

Tex-Mex Corn Chowder
This turned out to be very good, but I made a LOT of changes. First I sauteed onions (1/2 cup) and 2 cloves garlic in butter. Then I added all the spices and 3 large diced potatoes along with garlic salt and chicken broth. When tender, I added the corn, more spices, milk (1 1/2 cups) and cream cheese. The cream cheese was too overpowering, so I let it sit at the lowest temp for 1 hour and it was perfect!
