Spaghetti and homemade meatballs. Lovely with caesar salad and toasted garlic bread with melted cheese. Meatloaf.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Potato and cheddar cheese perogies. Vegetable and dill Russian Borscht. Shortbread cookies. Nuts and Bolts (Chex mix) at Christmas.
My cooking triumphs
Autumn Cheesecake (apples and pecans or walnuts on top). I made this cheesecake for several Christmases in a row and the family raved about it.
My cooking tragedies
Autumn Cheesecake! I got a new stove and that cheesecake never turned out again! I found it would not cook properly in the middle but would overcook on the outside. I experimented with time and temperature on many cheesecakes after this but never achieved success again. I have recently gotten another stove and intend on trying this cheesecake this Christmas.

Cabbage Borscht Mennonite Soup
Almost exactly like the borscht recipe handed down from my russian grandmother. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because star anise is such a strong flavour and, to me, overpowers the soup. Instead, we use lots dill seed (wrapped in layered cheesecloth and simmered with the bones to infuse a lovely dill flavour into the broth). Dill and cabbage go so well together in this soup!

Soft Oatmeal Cookies
The best oatmeal cookies I've ever made. They do stay soft! I added chopped walnuts to the batter which enhanced the flavour. I'll make them again.
