About this Cook
I am a happily married stay-at-home mom with two delightful children. I love to volunteer at their schools. I'm into music, reading and working out at the health club.
My favorite things to cook
Gotta be cookies, now that I have my new kitchen and my pantry is right at my elbow, instead of 35 feet away in the laundry room. So it's good that I like to work out!
My favorite family cooking traditions
The date nut cake at Christmas time, having the children get involved in cooking at an early age, roasting turkey (love the aroma!) for holidays, Dad's hamburgers on Saturday nights.
My cooking triumphs
My main triumph is getting dinner on the table every night. We can't afford to eat out much, or even afford fast food. No one told me that one of the hardest things about being a parent was coming up with dinner ideas, night after night after night.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies
My daughter has made this so many times she's memorized the recipe. Many of her friends keep asking for it. This is probably the best brownie recipe I've ever made, no changes necessary AT ALL.

Beef and Noodle Bake
This is both simple and satisfying. You can gussy it up any way you like, but as is its great for fussy eaters. Just DON'T use processed predigested artificial cheese-like substance, but real cheese. And DON'T bother to layer it, just mix it all up in the pan and pop it in the oven.

Red Velvet Cake
This is an excellent and easy cake to bake. You have to be careful to FOLD in the soda and vinegar. The only concern I have is how long to cook the milk and flour for the frosting: til it's as thick as mayonnaise? as thick as peanut butter? as thick as fudge? I do it by guess and by golly and it works, but it would be good to know a specific thickness. A good substitute for buttermilk: 1 tablespoon of white vinegar into a one cup liquid measure. Add milk to the one cup line. Wait for five minutes. And with that little substitution I have everything I need without special trips to the grocery store.
