Spaghetti ala Bolognese

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2008
Yum =) I use hot Italian sausage, diced tomatoes with garlic, oregano and basil, cream instead of milk, and I add about 2-3 crushed cloves of garlic while it simmers as well as approx 1 1/2 tsp of dried basil, few good cracks of fresh ground pepper and a roasted red pepper for a sweet little zing! To cut down on the "soupiness" that others had complained about I drain my meat really well after it has all been browned and I make sure that the cream really reduces before adding the wine and that the wine (only use 1/2 cup) really reduces before adding the tomatoes. I think this really helps as my sauce always turns out thick and hearty! I have been searching now for a good 2 or 3 years and have finally found my go-to spaghetti sauce recipe!!

Tiramisu Layer Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2007
Amazing dessert! Despite rich ingredients it's fluffy and decadent! Disappeared before you could say Tiramisu! Only changes I made was to double the coffee/liquer/instant coffee anywhere it was called for and instead of baking three cakes I made two (one coffee, one plain) and then just sliced each cake in two layers (TIP: use unwaxed dental floss! EASY!!) for a four layered cake! Thank you so much for this recipe!

Crab Cake Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2006
Yum!! This sauce was FABULOUS on "Lori's Famous Crab Cakes", also from this site. The only thing that I changed was that I doubled the amt of cayenne pepper, everything else I kept the same. Like others said, this would be terrific to even just dip tortilla chips in! Thanks!!

Lori's Famous Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2006
wow these were so easy and tasty! Although, they did fall apart on me too, even after adding extra egg white, and i think i might try sauteing the peppers first just to soften them up a bit and bring out their flavour! I pan fried them with just a few sprays of canola oil in the pan to make them healthier and they still turned out nice and golden brown! I served them with the "Crab Cake Sauce" also on this site (by Joan). Delicious!

Unstuffed Cabbage

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2006
Tasty! My cabbage was still a bit crunchy after 50 mins so you may want to cook it a bit longer but other than that its a great, simple, delicious recipe!!

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2006
This dip is so friggin good :) We had a pot luck last nite with WAYYYY too much food so as we were sending food home with people they were fighting over who got to take the last of the dip home! I put the dip together in the morning and just kept it in the fridge. About a half hr before I assumed people would show up, I popped it in the oven . But, as always, most were late so I just kept it in the oven with the oven turned off and once people began to arrive i just turned on the broiler for about 5-10 mins. Perfect!!! Definately keeping this recipe! Oh, and the only thing I changed was using 1/2 c of parmesean instead of 1/4 c of parm and 1/4 c of romano.

Island Kielbasa in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2006
Pretty good! I made a few changes... I used half ketchup and half hickory barbecue sauce, cut the sugar in half and I threw in some onions and green peppers cut into big chunks. Oh, and I used cocktail sausages for convenience. Went over pretty well at our potluck. Big hit mostly with the guys. Might make again but probably not for a while.

Grandma's Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2006
Sorry to be a damper, but I was not too impressed with this recipe. I cut the salt back to 1 1/2 tsp and it was still way too much (I ended up having to add another 2 cups of water to cut down the saltiness). And how can you have chicken noodle soup without carrots!! Other than adding the carrots and cutting down the salt I didn't change anything. It was OK i suppose, but the leftovers aren't moving too fast so i probably won't be making it again unless I make some major changes... but then that just wouldnt be the same recipe anymore would it!

Whole Wheat Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2006
These tasted really great.... once i figured out you need to have your grill a bit hotter than for normal pancakes. I also found the batter to be quite thin, even after sitting in the fridge for an hour, but they did puff up a bit when cooked. They also brown really really nicely!! Overall great recipe, but I think I might play around with it a little bit more to see if I can get the batter thicker without loosing that great light fluffy texture! :) Thank you!

Pumpkin Muffins II

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2005
WOW!!! These are FABULOUS! So plump and moist! Definately "coffee house quality"! I substituted the fresh pumpkin and all the spices for pumpkin pie filling and added chocolate chips. I'm making them for our Canadian Thanksgiving dinner this weekend so I doubled the recipe without reading the reviews before I made them. Needless to say I'm STILL baking muffins! This recipe would have been plenty as it makes approximately 2 dozen! Well good thing they are SO tasty!!! Shouldn't be a problem getting rid of them!

Bessy's Zesty Grilled Garlic-Herb Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2005
This is so yum!! By far one of the best chicken recipes I have ever made!!! I omitted the saffron and grilled it on low (still only needed to cook for 15-20 mins) so as to prevent it from charring as I don't like the tasted of charred foods. It turned out juicy and tender and just plain delicious!! Highly recommended!

Factory Workers Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2005
This was OK. I used 1 chicken breast (I was just cooking for myself) instead of thighs and marinated it overnight in 1/4 C salsa and 1/4 C italian dressing in a sandwhich baggy. I then grilled it on the forman grill, cut it into chunks and tossed it together with penne pasta and feta cheese. I think it would have tasted better if I had of cut it into chunks when it was raw so that it may have absorbed more flavor while marinating as I found the chicken tasted a little bland! Overall though it was still tasty (just need a little bit more of an "oomph"!).
