Winter White Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2013
This had an odd flavor, but was very good and easy to make. I cut out the mushrooms, accidentally used a turnip instead of a parsnip, and used yellow mustard instead of dijon. I also used half a can of cannellini beans. I used vitamin D milk instead of heavy cream. I would definitely make this again.

Thanks, this was a good vegetable side dish. I used 1/2 bag of bacon bits and 3 oz feta. It was very flavorful.

Easy Herb Rice

Very easy to make with what you have on hand at home, but nothing memorable.

Orange Bread II

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
I cut this recipe in half (except for the egg and butter) and only used 1/2 cup nuts. I also used lemon peel instead of orange zest and increased the orange juice a little bit, due to other reviewers' suggestions. This was very flavorful and a great recipe that doesn't have sugar in it. I couldn't even tell it didn't have sugar. Even after cutting it in half, I got one large loaf out of it.

Stir-Fry Broccoli With Orange Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
This was good, but either the broccoli should be doubled or the sauce cut down.

Mashed Turnips with Caraway

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
I cut the turnips down to 3/4 lb and the caraway to 1 tsp and kept the other ingredients the same. This was a nice change from mashed potatoes and the caraway and butter tasted great with the turnip.

Szechuan Beef

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
I used ground beef instead of sirloin steak. It was good, but a little flavorless. Maybe more soy sauce?

Classic Fried Rice

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
This is the best fried rice recipe I've ever made. The others just don't taste right. I cut the rice down to 3 cups and the soy sauce down to 2 tbs. I also used half a bag of bacon bits instead of bacon slices.

Tasty Orange-Oatmeal Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
I used orange juice instead of milk and skipped the raisins. It had a great flavor. I made it as a loaf of bread instead of muffins. It rose well.

Pumpkin Pecan No-Bake Cheesecake Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
This only took minutes to prepare. I used splenda instead of sugar. The only mistake I made was to use a pre-made crust. I should have made the crust myself because it was too thin.

Maple Pecan Granola

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
I skipped the flax seed and used 1/2 tsp almond extract and 1/2 tsp vanilla in place of the maple flavoring. I used sugar free syrup. Turned out well.

Multigrain Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2013
I added sugar, pecans, and cinnamon and used orange juice instead of buttermilk. These rose very well. I got 12 small muffins. They were pretty dry, however, and did not have much flavor despite what I added so I probably won't make them again.

Hash Brown Casserole for the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2013
I used broccoli cheese soup. I also only had 1.5 cups sour cream so that was all I used. After reading the reviews about how bland it was, I tasted it when it was halfway cooked and realized I thought it was bland too. I added 1/2 cup white zinfandel, some poultry seasoning, parsley, paprika, and some chicken boullion. That made it more flavorful.

Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2013
After reading the reviews, I added an extra egg white and an extra 1/2 tsp baking soda. They did end up rising well, possibly because of those additions, but the bottoms stuck to the muffin liners so bad I could only eat half of each muffin. I initially rated this 2 stars but bumped it up to 3 after they were gone. I thought they actually tasted very good and would make them again, with the changes I used the first time.

Strawberry Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2013
Thanks, this was a great recipe! The topping did not crumble like sugar crumble topping usually does . . . I think there was too much butter . . . but it tasted great after it came out of the oven so what do I know?

Peach and Poppy Seed Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2013
I used strawberries instead of peaches since peaches aren't in season. The actual bread, regardless of the fruit used, tasted good, but the bread didn't rise well at all. Maybe it needed more baking soda? I also had trouble with the dough, like maybe there was too much flour.

Curry Salmon with Broccoli

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2013
This is the best salmon dish I've ever had! I made it just as written except I used lite sour cream instead of mayonnaise. Not sure about the 6 servings--this made 10 HUGE servings. I browned the salmon in a pan and then boiled the rice and broccoli, mixed them all together, and warmed them up in the oven.

Tomato Blue Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2013
I used 6 oz feta instead of 1/4 cup blue cheese and 1/2 cup vitamin D milk instead of the mixture of heavy cream and milk. The soup was easy and quick to make, but a little flavorless. It needed a lot of salt added to it, which I don't really like to do.

Gingerbread Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2013
This recipe was perfect. Usually I double the cinnamon and other seasonings, but I didn't have to with this. The muffins also turned out huge and they rose perfectly. I left off the icing and ate them like muffins with butter.
